Starting again!

Hi everyone, like lots of us I'm coming back to mfp after piling on weight and failing miserably to lose it any other way!
I've really let my eating go massively downhill. I downloaded the app again yesterday and logged what I had yesterday and was disgusted to see it came to nearly 4000 cal. And that was pretty normal for what I eat these days. No wonder I've put on 2 stone and can't lose it!
I've tried all sorts of daft things and have realised this is the simplest easiest way to get on top of things.
Would love to make friends and support each other in this.

The fact that you accounted for everything you ate to get an idea of where you're at is awesome. I'd be afraid to even look. Taking stock of where you're at will definitely serve you in the long run, if you use it.

I'm starting back to this myself. Feel free to add me! Support and accountability are always helpful!

I’m new here too. 6 days in. Kudos for logging your food intake before you started. You are a braver person than me. I guesstimated my regular intake to be between 2500 and 3000 calories a day and that was bad enough! But hey, we’re here now and everyday is a new chance to make conscious healthy choices for food and activities. Welcome aboard and I’d be happy to be your friend 🙂

That is actually one of the best places to start, if you log what you normally have for a couple of days accurately, you can see exactly where you can cut out calories without having to make massive changes to the way you eat.

The best habits are built over time and are more likely to stick!

For me I found that by switching from using normal Olive Oil to 1 Cal spray I could shave a couple of hundred calories per day, reducing portion sizes to fit more inline with recommended servings particularly when it came to cereal, pasta, rice, etc saved me a lot of calories and I keep small kids chocolate bars as opposed to having binge-size bars of Galaxy.

Over time I've made much better nutrition choices and now bulk out my meals with a lot more low calorie/nutrient dense vegetables, I get a lot more protein and fibre in my diet than I ever did and a good amount of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals.
