Of water weight, glycogen, and daily weight fluctuations

This is a few years old so it very well could have been posted here as I have only been on the forum for a few months. That being said, I think this is worth posting.
This guy lost 24lbs in 24 hours in an effort to raise awareness about weight fluctuations and to prove that the scale is not the end all be all measure. This is definitely worth a read, especially for those who are just starting out.

Why the hell would anyone do this to themselves? He's proven nothing of use.
There's a few threads on here that discuss weight fluctuations and provide useful information about trends and water retention issues. Way more helpful than what this guy did.
Good way to kill yourself.4 -
Well there's an unsafe diet method if I ever saw one.3
-
My first thought was also why in the world would someone put themselves through that-it sounds dangerous.3

Searching for the thread I'm thinking of, but saw @AnvilHead posted this elsewhere.

This is the same guy who successfully trained to the point where he could pull a car for a full Marathon - 26.2 miles in 19 hours to raise money for a kids cancer charity.
You're missing the point if all you see is that it was dangerous he himself said it was dangerous. He clearly knows what he is doing, and had medical approval for this stunt - his whole purpouse was to show just how much the human body can fluctuate in one day and he did a stellar job at demonstrating that.3 -
Daily fail.... enough said!3

Oh, I get that. But just like the twinkie diet, I think there are better ways to make a point than doing something that is admittedly unsafe.
Wish I could find the thread I'm thinking of.
And I'm not sure pulling a car 26 miles is a good idea either.3 -

And why not? It's a he'll of a feat and he trained up to it for 8 months before the actual event. It was a huge test of mental and physical endurance and a great example of the things the human body is capable of. I have nothing but respect for people who push the boundaries of fitness and strength. I suppose you think strongman Eddie Hall shouldn't have Deadlifted 500kg either? A lot of people said it couldn't be done, and it coulda killed him - but he did it, he lived, and he will forever be the first man to deadlift half a metric tonne.
Better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.

Boxers/ MMA fighters do this all the time. They'll effectively starve/ dehydrate themselves the day before a weigh-in and then bulk up massively again leading up to their fight.
For me, water retention and my period are two big factors in daily fluctuations. Sleep is a big one too, that I don't think people talk about enough.1
