I use nike training club app on my ipod to do my workouts. I think it's pretty good. But how do I know how many calories it burns? Does anybody know more about this app or how to log that type of exercise in mfp?

I think some folks log it as "circuit training."

I measure my heart rate at regular intervals throughout the workout (for 15 secs then take that X 4). I average those numbers, then I plug them into a calorie burn calculator that does it by heart rate, not by activity, such as...

    http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.aspx

Problem with those is that depending on the calculator you use, and whether or not you know your VO2 max, you can get wildly different results. The calculator I noted above has a link to a VO2 calculator as well, that you can use (estimate only) using a resting heartbeat.

I'm 40, female, 154 lbs. Estimated VO2 max was 42, average bpm doing NTC for 45 minutes is around 136. My calorie burn for that workout is *about* 382 calories. Without a heart rate monitor, though, it's hard to tell. I always estimate low.

Only way to really know is with a HRM. I use the program almost daily and I burn around 500 for a 45 minute advanced session.
