Help!

Almost every doctor I have says Diet and Exercise and all I do is continue the way I have been eating. I need help finding a new way of life. I can't afford those new fancy diets like Atkins. That stuff is expensive and even eating what I am supposed to eat isn't cheap. So, I turned to myfitnesspal for some help.

Welcome. Those programs are great, but losing weight is quite simple. Increase your water intake, decrease other fluids such as soda, juice, etc. Eat healthier foods in smaller portions. Move! Even if it's just an evening walk, it will help. Best of luck to you :)

Welcome!! You don't need to spend money. Track every bite you eat , exercise, and stick to you calorie goals. I've lost a little over 20 lbs. over the last 5 -6 weeks doing those 3 things.

You just need to eat less of what you already eat.
Log a days food as it is now to see how many calories your over then trim it down.

Don't cut the foods you enjoy out of your diet or it will become unsustainable.

Logging your calories on here will benefit you so much . Seeing what you’re putting in your body changes the way you see food. You’ve got this!

You have taken the 1st step. The hardest one. Like the others have said. Track your food & movement. 10 continuous minutes of any kind of activity counts. Once you know what you are doing...it is easier to make changes. 1 Do it for you, 2 Do it for the people who would miss you if you were gone. Most importantly YOU. A good motivational ‘lifestyle change’ book I have read, “The eat clean diet” by Tosca Reno. She made me think and helped me understand, how to take charge. I don’t do everything her book says but it gave me a great guideline.

You're right, you need to change. It's not as hard as you think. Plug your stats into MFP and get your daily calorie goal. Then buy a digital food scale (they're real cheap), and start weighing and measuring everything you eat and drink. No worries, it takes a little time to get the hang of it. Try to stay within your calorie goal everyday. Then, move a little more--walking is just fine--and log that into exercise. MFP will give you more calories to eat that day. You can eat what you regularly do, just less. You'll quickly find that vegetables have less calories than other food, just watch how much butter, oil, etc. you put on and weigh that too. Good luck. Give this a try and let us know how it goes.
