The Challenge of Logging in Over the Weekend is REAL!

I was doing so well with logging my food and exercise over the week but then Friday hit and all logging thoughts left my mind. It is 10am Pacific on Monday and I just now remembered. How do you remember to log in over the weekend?

I have the app on my phone. When I sit down to eat, I log, no matter what. I make it a habit. I was on vacation and my bud kept saying "Why are you counting calories? You're on Holiday!". Yes, I didn't worry as much about losing weight, but still, it's now habit to track.

I say make it a habit. You sit, you log, then you eat.

I know it's not easy. It was a big commitment. I am getting close to my goal at least.

I try to log everything I’ve planned to eat/think I’m going to eat in the morning or even the night before. And the app is on my phone so I just make adjustments as the day goes if I change my plans.

Unless you're only using your PC at work to log, I'm not sure why logging weekends should be difficult. I don't forget to brush my teeth on the weekend. It's just something I do, every day.

I pre-log, so I've usually logged my weekend by Friday afternoon. Then I just have to go in and adjust for any changes in plan.

It comes down to making it habit-strength. You need to log enough so that it becomes something that you just won't forget about it. Maybe an auto-alert on your phone? What things remind you to log on weekdays?

I do that whenever possible as well. It helps a lot with planning. When I pack in the morning, I log breakfast and lunch, as well as any snacks I may take with me to work. If I know what dinner is, I'll add that as well right away. Glad someone pointed that out since I forgot. :)

Routine and habit. I have an alarm set every day to get up and take my pill and take care of our pets. I have to wait an hour after taking my pill to eat. I generally pre log my whole day in the morning before I eat anything. I don't sleep in any later on the weekend. I eat at pretty much the same times every day.
I only eat out maybe one meal a week and only shop for groceries once a week so everything else is what I have on hand even on weekends. I don't drink my calories.
I have dinners planned for the weekend. I have a good idea of the activities I will be doing over the weekend. I might spntaneously decide to go for a walk if the weather is nice. I don't spontaeously decide to go to a chili cook off.
I know that I typically eat about 600 calorie dinners, 400 calorie lunches, 100-300 calorie breakfast and 100-300 calorie snacks. I know foods that fit those amounts after logging for awhile. I've looked up nutritional information of many restaurants in our area.
If I did not log on a Saturday I would still have a pretty good idea of how many calories I was eating that day.

What helps you remember to log during the week?

I like this idea. janejellyroll recommended the same thing. Since I ALWAYS eat breakfast, I can try to plan out my day. Thank for the suggestion.

This made me laugh and I love the cat emoji. Somehow I associate my weekends with being on holiday. If I am not sitting at my PC I just forget.

I definitely feel the struggle with you...I am always on the go from one equine rescue to the other or cleaning or going to the dog park on the weekends, so I just never find the time to log until I go to bed. I guess in my mind I know I'm burning extra calories so I'm not as anal about it?

Are you not on your phone on the weekend? I have the MFP icon right on my phone home screen. I also have my food scale right on the kitchen counter. I would have to willfully "forget" to log in.

Leave yourself reminders. Start eating mindfully. Good luck

another vote for pre-logging. I especially pre-log if I know we are going out to eat. I will look up the menu online and play with the numbers to find a meal that I'll enjoy and still fits in my plan. It helps me stay away from the fried appetizers and other things that might tempt me.

The phone app is great for on the go logging. Plus, it has the added bonus of the barcode reader. I rarely log my food from a computer. I just enter it into my phone quickly.
