Does/can magnesium help with water retention?

Hi all, i retain water quite easily whether it be high sodium/carbs exercise etc. It doesnt affect me healthwise or anything like that but I was googling how to get rid of water retention and saw magnesium can help. I used to take magnesium all the time to help with cramps, toilet time, sleeping stuff like that and never thought or noticed it would help with water retention. Is it a thing or no? Just curious 😊

I take it daily (have done for about a year for sleep) and I still have water weight swings of 5lbs plus so I am gonna say probably not, it can help with DOMs I believe but that's more in terms of reducing the aches than the water retention.

If water retention isn't affecting your health, why would you want to get rid of it? It's your body balancing fluids like it's meant to and for weight loss you're trying to lose fat not water.

I've wondered the same thing and have the same issues sometimes. I can tell when I'm retaining because I'll be chugging water and not peeing, but usually if i keep chugging more and more, eventually it comes out and flushes out of my body. I don't sweat it when my weight jumps up because it's inevitably water weight that will come down the next day. I've thought of using diuretics on occasion when I'm retaining, but I've heard of it causing rebound water weight gain so I don't see that it would do any good when I could just drink more water and wait for the flushing to happen.

Thanks all. It was just more of a curiosity thing. I google lots of random things when bored but dont believe half of what i read lol. I know when im retaining water and why and like i said im fine heathwise. I had never really noticed a difference when taking magnesium in the past but it was also something i never thought about or paid attention too :)
