i dont binge and purge, but sometimes i feel like binge eating is just as bad! im still doing harm to my body! i could easy consume 5000 calories in one sitting. i can eat and eat and eat. i eat when im not hungry. there is always an urge for me to eat and i dont know how to stop, i honestly need suggestions to help. binge eating makes you feel so out of control. i feel like food controls me and i really need some help to turn the way i eat around. its so bad for my body! and lately, my body had been letting me know that it is fed up with the way i treat it! tips for stopping ?

Here's what helped me: Make a list of things to do instead of binge. Post it (maybe in several places) where you can see it. When you feel the need to binge, start doing the things on that list. Mine consisted of things like reading, surfing online, crocheting, knitting, going for a walk, playing with my cats...you get the idea. Non-food related things that will occupy your mind and your hands.

Sometimes, just doing one thing on that list was enough to distract me from bingeing. (Binging? How is that spelled?) Other times, I seriously did EVERYTHING on my list because the urge was really that strong. Sometimes I even had to go back to the top of the list and start over. It works, though - and it's worth it to keep from feeling stuffed and awful.

    Good luck!

Same here. I find it has a lot to do with my mindset, with my mood. There have been times when I've eaten a pack of ready bake cookies or a bag of jelly beans ON THE WAY home from the grocery store. I can put away a half gallon of ice cream in a sitting without flinching. And those 1lb bags of M&Ms... they are single serving bags.

I'm MUCH more likely to eat when I'm feeling down. I'm also much more likely to eat when I'm bored (though generally not to the same extent). So I try to be proactive. I try to stay busy in the evenings so I don't get bored, and when I start to feel my mood slipping I go workout or do something that I know will help my spirits.

I've also learned that I'm a very disciplined shopper, but a COMPLETELY undisciplined eater. If it's in the house, I'm going to eat it. So I try to shop as smartly as I can. It's tough with 2 kids because I want them to have foods they like for lunches and such, but...

I've also noticed that if I can get 2 or 3 good days in a row, my "cravings" ease too... so the better I am, the easier it gets to be good. But those first few days can be really tough.

At least your 19 yrs old! I could put down a couple of bags of chips and not gain a pound when I was your age. Now that I am older, I think of food and gain 50 billion tons.

I keep a Food Journal to help me stop before I start binging... no it's not a journal I track the food I eat in (That's what MFP is for haha)... it's a journal that I whip out and write down what I'm feeling and WHY I want to eat... I also put inspirational quotes & pictures in it... write down the REASONS I am choosing to be healthy... write down future rewards for all sorts of goals (maintenance, good days etc.)... I also have a mini calendar where I put a BIG NICE check mark on every day that I DON'T binge... every time I force myself to put a big X (on a day I've binged) it makes me all the more determined to not have to use a big X again... I've been using it for about 2 months and I'd say I went from binging 1-2x a week to now maybe a couple times a month...
