    We cannot control what others do - we can only control how we react to it.

    What he does is out of your control. You can make choices about what you will do. In my case, if I loved the guy I'd probably still want him to be part of my life. OTOH - I wouldn't let him babysit my kids. You have choices to make.

    I seriously would not take advice from people on the internet about whether to continue speaking to your father. I'm not on speaking terms with mine, but it was a decision I made alone. I did not discuss it with anyone else. Unless you're me or my father, you have no idea what really happened.

    Positive-In my childhood he got me whatever i wanted. In my teens also he spent massive amount of money on me. He is loving .

    money is no love, gifts are also not love, just because someone gives you *kitten* doesn't mean that the love you . . .

    I think its very easy to mis interpret love with giving / buying what you 'what' I know my mum would help my financialy if needed......but sometimes I just needed a hug or understanding.
    I feel my family have many faults but I love them dearly and bite my tounge........we barley speak but never a bad word said, sometimes its easiest to accept we cannot change some people, don't wish to argue but they've made a child that has learned many lessons via their mistakes.
    Maybe, without your fathers issues you wouldn't have been the man yet are....if you are happy, carry on and smile that you are who you are ;)

    The only problems is he lacks morals and ethics .For the last 7 years i have had this cold war with him .We are on speaking terms but i hardly exchange words.
    It must be hard for you not to be able to feel respect towards your own father.
