New to the MFP app but have tried others before. Going for a new approach this time as I have always dieted in secret. After hearing it from my brother from hugging going up a hill and my dad worried about my health thought I would do what I can to turn it around and keep it off.
I’ve heard having people to keep you honest is very good and helping people do thought I would try the community side as well.
I am 43 and be active most my life but love sweets and occasionally I stress eat. So this push I thought I would try a Keto diet to get me started then transition to a standard calorie watching diet after the initial two months. Not sure I can stick to a strict Keto for more than that.

Welcome!
Here are a couple of links that I think you’ll find very helpful:

http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1
The first covers accurate logging and some of the tools in MFP to help you make things easier. The second discusses caloric needs and setting goals. These are two of the most commonly-referenced threads on MFP; tons of people point to them as being sources of great info when you're just starting out.
For more friends check out these threads, which are fairly popular:

MFP has helped me immensely, having friends who keep one accountable is good but losing weight can be a bumpy road with plateaus, emotional issues, etc. and friends also help with those. In 2017, I lost 31 lbs. and later that year I decided to take a year off (although I checked in several times a week as I love my MFP friends) to deal with the grief of losing my hubby suddenly, selling a home, buying a new one. I was coming back and found out I had a blocked coronary artery causing angina and shortness of breath. Not blocked enough for a stent, I am now on meds that are kicking in so I am back and starting to slowly increase my exercise. Feel free to add me and I have some awesome friends who are motivational. Blessings!0
