Exercise counted twice?

Apologies if this has been asked before but I've started to use this app and whilst I think it's pretty useful there's one feature I'm unsure of:

When I sync it to my Garmin account it'll bring across the number of steps and also any extra exercise I've done so as an example today is:

Running (jogging)- 554 calories
Garmin Connect Calorie Adjustment ( 18, 436 steps)- 1613 calories

Does this mean my run is being counted twice? I.e as the run and then in the steps?

I'm having a similar result with my Fitbit Versa. MyFitnessPal brings in the adjusted calories, but not the exercise/ workout calories. So when I add my workout, am I giving myself extra calories?

Yea that's what I mean, it's a bit confusing (at least to me!) to know what is what.

I do believe so! When I had a Fitbit I would only use the synchronized calories, and wouldn’t log exercises via MFP as I felt like the Fitbit was more in line with what I was actually burning and I saw more consistent results than when I used the exercise log to pick my activities

I like to share my exercise results. Since the Fitbit isn't uploaded I can't share unless I enter the info myself. Guess I just won't eat the exercise calories.
