Can someone explain Shakeology to me?

I would like to incorporate it into my eating plan (maybe as my daily breakfast?) but I'm not positive I understand what it's supposed to be/do.

if you've had success with it, can you explain it to me? I'm looking to add it to my diet and exercise in an effort to lose 50lbs by March.

Thanks!!

It's just a heavily supplemented (vitamins/minerals) powdered shake product -- and an expensive one that you have to buy through a multi-level marketing distributorship.

It's tasty, but at about $4+ a serving, I prefer to build my own with Spirutein and add a supplement such as Greens+.
  • I used it for about 6 months. I can honestly say that for the $120 per month that I spent, I didn't see any extra results. Sure, it tastes great. The chocolate does, not so much the Greenberry. It did provide a lot of energy, but I don't think that it really helped my weight loss. The diet and exercise did that more than anything. I lost the same amount of weight as I did without it.

    I used it at breakfast.

I got some free samples one time and they were awesome. I used it as a meal replacement and it kept me satisfied. I did notice an increase in energy as well. But, it is expensive and they will try to get you on an auto shipment and I just can't justify doing that right now.

You basically over-pay for stuff you could get at the store, and the stuff you get is overprocessed. It's a pyrmaid scheme- ever hear of Amway?

But I suppose if you do it, you get to say 'I do shakeology. Yay!'

    :-)

BINGO! I tried this stuff before going vegan when my trainer suggested it and gave me some samples...broke out in the worst case of hives from it!

Whoops... you just opened yourself up to a bunch of marketing PM's.

"Regular" protein and meal replacement shakes without the MLM work just as well.

    AMEN to that!

I have Un-friended MFPeeps/Facebook friends (Beachbody Coaches) because that's all I heard about and they tried to shove it all down my throat. I sold Herbalife and we did shakes, too. Definitely all overpriced and processed. Stick with natural stuff and make your own, and save the $4 +/- per serving.

And you will be inundated with about 10 BeachBody Coaches in 5, 4, 3, .................

    YOU SAID IT, my friend!
  • I had never heard of this until about an hour ago, my co worker was telling me about Shakeology & was going to send me info… Glad I came across these comments before committing to anything! :embarassed:

I tried it for awhile...I for one thought it tasted AWFUL!!!! I couldn't gag it down no matter how I prepared it! And, yes, incredibly expensive! But I suppose if you regularly spend more than $4 for breakfast it's a bargain? A friend of mine is a BeachBody coach, so I hate to say it, but IT SUCKS!!! Just eat well, and move!

You would do much better blending your own drink with real food. Here is a website I found today while looking for some new ideas for smoothies. These recipes sound really great. http://www.squidoo.com/greensmoothies
I'm not selling anything, nor have any financial interest in the above website.

And might I add that the chain of replies above (honest, lighthearted and truly helpful) makes me know I'm in the right place!!! So glad I found MFP.
  • I drink vi shape nutritional milkshakes twice a day for muscle recovery. They are packed with nutrition but only have 90 calories, 1 fat, 7 carbs, 1 sugar.  I mix mine in a blender with milk, juice, or coffee,  ice and cocoa powder, peanut butter, and/or extract flavors. Sweet cream flavor only!!!!!!!!!!
