Good elliptical workout??

What program does everyone use on the elliptical? I have been doing interval for 30 minutes. It goes like this:
2 mins - incline 4 resistance 1
2 mins - incline 10 resistance 6
Repeat for 30 mins.
Then 5 minutes of cool down.

Any suggestions of good calorie burning programs?? I've heard that you should never use the "weight loss" program.

    ps: how do you track your calories for the interval burns?

    I use the 'weight loss program. I'm not sure why that would be bad. I lower the resistance to the lowest, which still gets up to about 7, and have been trying to keep it at the default 48 minutes. I go about 3.5 miles during this and burn about 450 cals according to my HRM.
  • I was told that the weight loss program doesn't get your heart rate up and down enough. To burn the most calories it's good to get your heart rate up and then just as your body is getting "used to it" to change the heart rate again. and the weight loss program isn't good for that type of training...could be wrong though?? I you are using your HRM and burning 450 cals in 45 mins that sounds good to me!!!
    I am anxiously awaiting my HRM so that I can tell what I'm actually burning.
    The interval program tells you how much you've burnt and I usually do about 300 in 30 mins on the machine but who knows how accurate that really is.

    I agree...I might have to try out some of those things, especially when I just have 30 minutes as opposed to closer to an hour.

    Question...do you all go backwards? I don't and I don't know why. I guess I just don't think about it.

    I used to go backward....it's diffucult and works different muscle groups. My trainer used to encourage going backward, but I'm not sure why. He was a quack when it came to diet....NO SUGAR and VERY LITTLE carbs. The dude would get on to me for eating fruit! His gym closed down last year, not entirely sure why though....he himself was quite fit and a body builder as well.
