Some 5 or 6 years ago I lost about 45 kg - 100 pounds - within 18 months. Hit a massive plateau for 6 months and eventually gave up. Regained the weight and joined MFP 250 days ago. Weight loss much slower this time and I am realizing that I am in for a long haul. Started at 170 kg, (375 pounds) same starting weight as last time. Over the months I have been adjusting my macros to a level which suits me best. Started with 15 % carbs, 40 % fat, 45 % protein which I could not sustain. I have slowly changed to 25 % carbs, 35 % fat, 40 % protein which seems to be what my body needs. Bread is - and always has been - my trigger food - used to eat a loaf of bread (and whatever I could put on top of it) in one sitting when I felt depressed or anxious, so bread is not on my daily meal plan any longer. I am careful with potatoes / rice / pasta but eat just about everything else within my allotted 1750 calories a day (MFP calculation). Exercise - with my initial weight I could barely walk and didn't fit onto / into most gym machines. Now I can walk 2 hours or more and I enjoy water aerobics at the gym. I prepare my meal plan for the day and take it meal by meal. For me cheat days are not a good idea, they used to extend miraculously to 2 days, even a week. I include whatever I would like to eat in my meal plan and do a bit more exercise. My portion control could be better and I never seem to be able eat the amount of proteins I should eat. Initially I had blood tests done and told my GP that I will see him after 1 year again. So far I had no flu or cold - just some creaky knees and joints, but that was to be expected. Thanks to MFP and all those members for their advise - very much appreciated.3

I wish you luck but 100 lbs in 6 months is an unrealistic goal unless you are extremely obese. It took me 2 years to lose 100 lbs. If you want to lose and keep it off I would suggest taking a bit more time than that. Losing 4 pounds a week is not healthy nor sustainable for most folks. One of the mistakes that people tend to make is thinking that they will lose the weight quickly so they can go back to "normal". Our "normal" got us in to trouble in the first place. Take your time and you will get there in addition to learning how to maintain along the way.5

He's done it before, so I'll assume he has at least a base understanding of the 'rules of the game'. So he should understand that losing weight is only half the battle--the other half is keeping it off. (Presumably he's already failed in this regard, at least once.)
What matters is this:
FloridaFatty345: You probably know that, assuming things go as hoped, you won't ever have more weight to lose than you do right now. Which means your biggest losses will happen right now. So if you have a plan, start today.
Ultimately, you're wanting to lose weight at a pace of just below 4 pounds a week. I will tell you that the odds are stacked--very heavily--against your success. But you have an opportunity to experience your biggest success now, and in the month ahead.
Make a shorter-term goal, and go for that goal. I think you could reasonably lose 15 pounds in the next 31 days.
I assume you have a plan of attack, based on your past experience. If you don't, many MFP users swear by the time-tested though math-heavy 'calories in, calories out' approach, though there are special diet plans out there that I'm sure you've heard of and might be better for you, depending on food intolerances or your unhealthy food 'weaknesses'. There is information elsewhere on this forum if you need to develop a plan.2 -

Thanks for the support everyone. Yes, I’ve lost 100 pounds before in 8 months. I’m pushing myself in 6 months this time and, who knows, even I get close I’ll be happy. I kept it off last time for a few years but literally gained 100 pounds over the last 18 months. Had family and relationship drama but now focusing on myself again. First day down and all good. 1200 calories in, 400 calories out in treadmill and elipitucal. Long road ahead, so appreciate your words of support. And I’ll support you all too. I gotta admit: I miss getting flirted with, so that’s a factor too. Ha.1
