Im finding it hard to continue? As things got busy w/ moving family this summer, a new puppy, etc, I cant seem to get back into working out, taking care of me, all the things I did enjoy when I at least did them. This cycle has always followed me when it pertains to working out and getting fit. I go for several months and then about this same time, fall/winter starts to come, I get lazy and comfortable and next thing you know....excercise feels like a far memory.

I wanna break this cycle. I guess maybe I just gotta get it thru my head to not quit? IDK? Psychin myself up hasnt been working so im kinda in a huge funk....I dont wanna give up but im not sure where to go. :ohwell:

It's very much a habit now for me. I feel weird on "rest" days since I haven't exercised. I just know that if I don't continue with it I'm going to end up 297 lbs again. And I DON'T Want that one bit. I've lost about 34lbs or so this year and I don't want any of that back on, so I just stick with it. I'm finding it harder now that my weight has been fluctuating this week like crazy. But I just keep thinking I don't want to be back where I was in January. Maybe once you start getting into the flow of things again it'll be second nature to you. It's just getting re-started that'll be hard.

Have you still been keeping to your calorie goal while not working out?

This may sound dumb, but what motivates me is logging in my exercise so that I can eat a few extra calories a day. Like I really want oatmeal, but I like adding brown sugar to my oatmeal so that really increases the calories of one serving of oatmeal the way I make it is 281 calories! yikes! But I'm really craving it so It was really easy for me to wake up this morning, as sore as I am from yesterday's double workout and get moving again.

i don't have as much on my plate as you do, but i always make things a contest.

how many "good" days can i have? how much longer can i hold out on that piece of chocolate? how many more minutes can i run?

a lot of losing weight is a mental thing.. it's pushing yourself, Jedi mind-tricks. LOL

Dont let yourself get bored with your routine. Switch it up and try new and fun ways of working out. For example, I was getting burned out on running and the elliptical so I went out and got myself a bicycle. Now I look forward to my afternoon rides. Next I want to try playing racquetball with my husband. If you allow yourself to get bored then you wont want to do it anymore. Exercise can be fun...it doesnt have to be torture! :P

Also focus on a goal that you want to attain that is in direct relation to your weight loss. Could be something small like fitting into an old pair of jeans or a new little black dress...or it could be something life changing. I focus on wanting to start a family and knowing that losing weight will help that along.

Make sure to pull from the support of the MFP community. From my experience so far, the people here are amazing!

Think about taking up a sport you can do all year round like volleyball. That way you're in a league team and have to commit to playing maybe once or twice week. Stick at it, you can do it.

oh I feel your pain- I have done that same thing many times... just keep in mind how history repeats itself and you don't want to go back there! I don't know if you pray, but if you can, pray for strength! it is as important as logging! friend me if you like - the fall is my hard time too -Oct thru Dec. I have marked all over my calendar on those months with motivational comments!

I just do it, I want to spend the rest of my life healthy and active. Life sucked being morbidly obese, I was watching life, not being a part of it. I love life, and want to make the most of what it has to offer, even better, I reallized I am worth it!

I only exercise 3 to 4 times per week because that's really all I can fit into my schedule without sacrificing too much time with my family...and I eat relatively normal food, that's what has keep me going! You can add me as a friend if you would like!

I'd rather do this every day for the rest of my life than have a heart attack or a stroke. I know I'll never fit into a summer time bikini.
because I am a dude, and that would have an unsightly bulge. So do it to feel good about yourself and life.

Nike says it best...."JUST DO IT!" Do you have 20 minutes to spare today? I know you do! Just get up and do SOMETHING :) You will be so proud of yourself and feel so great afterwords I have no doubt you'll be able to do it again tomorrow or the next day. Whenever I fall off the wagon I spend so much wasted time thinking of how to get back into it.....or putting myself down for stopping in the first time...or researching ways to get started again. The reality is you just have to put on your sneakers and workout clothes and do something...run...a workout video...go to the gym...even just for 20 minutes. I know you can do it! :)

I spent to many years being my own worst enemy and I will not go back to feeling like a blimp again. I schedule time to workout and it's non-negotiable, period. I also put myself in that mind frame that I will get to the goals that I set for myself and nothing will stand in my way. I have that little talk with myself every day and it keeps me motivated and on track. Plus this website is the best thing ever and the people and support are like nothing else.

I like having goals - whether it be a 5k or a triathlon or a bike race.... It's harder to slack when you have that.... You mention that you have a puppy, well, get up with the puppy every morning and take him/her for a walk.... Pretty soon, (s)he'll be waking you up raring to go, and it will be hard to tell that cute little face no.... That's what really motivates me - I have three that keep me in line.

For me, I love eating healthy (now LOL) and exercise is like my best friend! It makes me feel good and lessens my anxiety and depression. Maybe incorporate these things... you got a new puppy? take it for a walk!!

I know what you mean; sometimes working out does feel like a chore, just one more thing to fit into a busy day. BUT, every time I let it slide, I regret it. I know that I feel better when I'm in shape--physically and psychologically, so I try to think about how I'll feel AFTER the workout instead of thinking about how I'm feeling before. I got a flyer in the mail from from a health club a couple of years ago with the line "No one works out and regrets it." I didn't join the club, but I cut that out and taped it to my computer!

On a more concrete level, change your routine when you feel you're losing motivation, or set some short term (a week, a month) goals or challenges for yourself, or try to get some friends and family involved.

Good luck and remember you don't have to knock it out of the park with every workout; some days you just start out going through the motions and that's all you get, but other times those turn into great workouts.

I keep going, even when there seems to be no progress on the scale, because I know that this is now a lifestyle, not a diet. I'm eating healthier because I want a healthy body. I'm exercising daily because I want a healthy body. I know I won't get it with a lifestyle that I was living before I started this past spring. I'm in it for life, not just until I lose the weight. I can't give up. My life depends on it!!

Thank you friends! All of your commys made me say..."awww" or "wow" My puppy is 9 weeks old and Im def playin w/ him and walking him but wanting to potty train and be home to take him out so he learns has me so distracted im afraid to leave for extended periods of time. haha I have crate trained my other dog and I know this new little guy will do fine, im just a little older now and forgot how hard to train a puppy could be. haha As for MFP, I love this site and when I feel like not signing in or just deletin my page all together I do think of the great pals on here that have been w/ me since last august. I thank you. And I will find 20 minutes to ride my bike, take a walk or run the pup in the yard. Reading all your replies totally lifted my spirits and helps me to believe in myself just a tad more  Bless you all:flowerforyou:

I always try and remember that what you are doing here isn't dieting, its a lifestyle change, you know, in order to have the sustained effect that we all want to have, you need to change your habits. I was just thinking the other day how long it was since i'd bought a bar of chocolate at the shop, or had two bits of bread with dinner, and you get to the stage where you don't even realise you're doing it (or not doing it!) and that's the key i think to long term change. And also don't deprive yourself, that's only gonna make things worse in the long run, or beat yourself up for having a bad day or not doing any exercise. None of us are superheroes.

There was a mental shift one day for me where it changed from being a chore to something I consider as just a normal part of my daily life...the important thing is to workout when you don't want to and keep up a steady, consistent routine...at some point in time, it becomes a habit...

I will be blunt...YOU HAVE TO WANT IT! IF LOSING MOMENTUM IS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AND GAIN WEIGHT AND BE UNHEALTHY AGAIN, THEN STOP WORKING OUT!

Sorry, it had to be said...it HAS to be part of your life and not an optional chore that can be put to the side...it is the physiological equivalent of contributing to your 401(k)...it is just something you do for your future that builds its own sustaining momentum over time.

Ya gotta want it...if not, then you are not mentally prepared for this to be a normal part of your life...until it is, you cannot succeed...

Sorry, I don't coddle on these "Loss of Motivation" threads...

Look at my ticker...it says "0" pounds to go for a reason...

I truly know how you feel on this as I have the same issue. I'll do great for a cpl months and then stop completely...this time has been different.

I'll work out one day and have absolutely no energy the next:sad: but I'm still pushing myself every day because I'm afraid that if I 'take a break' that it will be just that much harder to get back on track so some days I log and some days I'm so tired that I fall asleep:yawn: before turning in my diary but I usually try to go back that next day and log in the day that I missed(granted that my pre-menopausal minds allows me to remember).

It just seems like there are not enough hours in a day and I constantly have a gazillion things running thru my mind that I need to be doing - not even knowing where to start but I force myself to take one day at a time and remind myself daily to try and do better each day. It is really difficult when you feel that you have too much on your plate - task wise and food wise for me, lol but thru it all, my mind is completely made up to never quit no matter how many times I slip up or 'backslide' ...maybe the one thing that keeps me going(not so well right now but still going nevertheless) is that this is not a temporary situation - it's a lifelong situation which is one of the main things that motivate me.

It's all in the choices that we make and I can't 'let myself go' AGAIN because that was what brought me here in the first place...we have to learn to TAKE the time for ourselves...I just don't want to lose 'me' again.:noway: I may not be doing a perfect job with this but I am doing it and have every intention on improving sooner or later and everything else will get done in time...believe me it'll still be sitting there waiting on you whenever you get to it so make sure that you take YOUR time for YOU so that you don't get left out in the process of taking care of everything else...rest, :smokin: regroup, and jump back on the wagon girl, you can do it!!!!
