How often or how many days a week do you work out? Just seriously starting this journey (a journey I've been on for a while but not so seriously) and want to work out as much as possible without overdoing it. I'm mainly starting with cardio...and I feel GUILTY if I take a rest day, like that is going to set me back. I'd really appreciate some advice!

Thanks in advance,

I'm doing jillian michael's 30 day shred so i try to do it everyday though i have missed a couple days and I also tried to ride my bike everyday(about 10-12 miles) but on the days i don't bike i take my dogs for extra long walks.

I feel guilty taking a rest day too but it really is best for the body to give it at least on day of rest a week or at least a day where your workout is fairly low key.

You technically dont ever have to take a day off unless you get hurt or are sick (below the neck). Now that statement can be taken many different way but here is what i mean. If you do the same thing continuously you will burn out if not overtrain a specific muscle grouping. I "workout" everyday unless life gets in the way and days i just dont feel like it (listening to my body) i go for a walk. The next trick is to not workout at the same intensity all the time, mix it up based on how you feel. Then also look for way to get exercise into your daily life. Take the stairs, park farther away when going to the store etc.

    1 day off a week
    Twice a day 5 days a week (1.5 - 2 hours sessions)
1 Long session on Sundays (3-5 hours)

A day off a week is good to rest and also something to look forward to... a distraction, recharge the batteries even mentally...

... but is irrelevant what other people do, as you can only do what you can
    1) fit in your schedule (work, kids, family commitments etc)
    2) your body can tolerate only so much quantity of work (it takes time to build, even years)
    3) enough quality work... but not too much that it will affect your long run consistency (keep injuries and burn out at bay)

More is not necessary best! ;-)

    Good luck!

I go to 5 1 hr fitness classes a week (1 x zumba, 3 x body combat and 1 x body pump). I wish I could go to more but I can't fit any more in because of work. I think having those two nights off though are probably good for me. I might try and push myself a bit further soon but doing two classes back to back one night a week. Will wait and see though. Just listen to your body and don't feel guilty about it. You're doing significantly more than you used to and you should be proud of that.
