A protein shake is just a supplement to help you hit your protein targets...it's irrelevant to weight management.

If you feel like you need more protein, it's fine to have a shake before bed, assuming it doesn't bother your stomach or make you have to wake up more often to pee. Log it though, those calories still count. A protein shake isn't going to do anything as far as weight loss, but getting enough protein is certainly important for good health and protecting muscle as you lose. You could also just eat more of the protein foods you like during the day.

When you have the protein shake is largely irrelevant.

A shake in the morning = a shake at lunch = a shake before bed.

What was your reason for having the shake before bed?

If you're opting for added protein at night look into casein. It's recommended because it's a slow digesting protein which stimulates protein synthesis overnight.
