Expectations vs reality

I really thought I was getting a mini "lava' cake , show me yours...
Edit: Not on purpose but I covered up the word "bar" more than likely because I didn't notice it when I purchased it nor when taking a picture. I just noticed because of the "truth in advertising" comments below and was like yeah how can they get away with it. Well looks like I just can't read:)

I don't understand how they can get away with that. When a picture adds a sprig of parsley as a garnish that isn't actually in a package, it always says "serving suggestion."2 -
Wow interesting, being that the two look nothing like each other. So much for truth in advertising.2

Super deceiving.2

I'm kind of failing to see how it's deceiving. I do get the joke you're trying to make for sure.
A a lava cake doesn't sound like a 55g bar. If anything the bar looks more like chocolate fudge (the flavor they're calling it) than the lava cake does
If they said that it was organic but then 50% of the ingredients weren't then I'd be of a different opinion.2 -
I was expecting bad Tinder date stories. But then I noticed we're in food and nutrition. I hate when I'm expecting something great and it's at best, meh.6

But they put the picture of the lava cake on the package.3 -
"Weight loss bar".... huh. I eat that and go into a caloric deficit?3

It says bar in 3 different places on the front of the package. I'm surprised you did not note there were 4 bars in the package and how not cake shaped the packaging was. How disappointing if you were ready for cake. Did it taste like a lava cake at all?
Looks like other flavors of that brand of bars also picture desserts that the bar is supposed to taste like.

I guess I've never been disappointed when I opened a carton of milk and didn't find a cow inside.
Hmmm. If almondmilk comes from almonds and soymilk comes from soybeans, do you think grassmilk cuts out the middleman (or middlecow)?7 -
@Lounmoun I honestly didn’t see anything except the lava cake pic, organic and fiber grams. I thought it was like the fiber one cakes. I only noticed the word bar after I posted here. It’s so embarrassing.
But I stand my ground on the cake picture it doesn’t even come close to tasting like a lava cake.
It’s dry as a bone a very hard to chew🙁
I wonder how many more folks are going to make fun of me? I guess I deserve it though lol.8 -
Ha! I know one of the reps for that company, and I remember when those came out. At the time, he told me, “You know, these bars are really good, but I don’t think that it’s fair that the guys in marketing decided to put pictures of desserts on the boxes. It might make people want to eat real cakes.”5

@lynn_glenmont lol I can have my senior moments but I’m not expecting a cow in milk...yet.0

And it says bar how many times? I count at least three. Let's also assume that these are shelf stable. Do you expect a shelf stable lava cake with liquidly chocolate frosting and chocolate shavings? That seems like a really tall (and unappetizing) order.
Edit - also assuming the depth of the box is shallow (there are only four bars after all), those would be some very thin lava cakes. Likely too thin to warm up and have the cake retain a liquid center.4 -

I think you’re taking things a bit more seriously than needed. I’ve addressed the fact that I looked at a picture and didn’t read. Folks are just poking fun at me and rightly so. Lynn was being sarcastic. Look at their milk post. See humor - all in good fun:).
Even I didn’t expect a real lava cake but I did expect some sort of cake like snack like the fiber one cookies etc.

I took the OP as a light hearted poke at both yourself and the packaging. I have occasionally grabbed a package solely off the packaging without looking closely at the box. It happens sometimes when shopping while rushed. Once the box is opened, the contents can be disappointing (not unlike dating).8 -
Quest bar wrappers are very deceiving as well....lol
Sure don't look like the pics on the box

As I said in my first post to you, I can see the joke in your original post. It's other people's responses that my mind is a bit more boggled about. So no, I don't think I'm taking this especially seriously. Also sarcasm is rather hard to read online.6 -
I always get really annoyed at how good fast food looks in their commercials. Whenever I actually get fast food it's like, womp womp.

That would be a surprise indeed. Even better if it talked like in the commercials.0 -

The mint bars would have been so epic with the crushed candy canes on top.2 -

How much would one pay for that little bar of sadness0
