I am a serial diet starter. I’m trying to make it a lifestyle change but no matter how healthy I eat and limit myself I’m starving and have horrible cravings I know I need to learn self control they get so bad that it’s uncontrollable and that’s all I think about. does anyone have any tips or advice. Thank you!

“Self control” can only get you so far. How much do you have to lose, and how fast do you have mfp getting you to lose it? Can you afford to add some extra calories and still be in a deficit?

sounds like the issue is when you "diet" you set unrealistic goals that are impossible to live with long term. weight loss is a marathon not a sprint. don't white knuckle it.

why not try something more simple. instead of going on a diet that requires an extreme limit in calories and removing all foods you like, set a moderate calorie goal that will allow weight loss (but more slow) that you can keep to over a long time. learn some good habits you will then continue to use in maintenance.

Did you put your stats in MFP with a weight loss rate of say 1lb? what did it recommend?

You don't have to be 100% perfect. Fit a treat into every day. Something you enjoy but can control yourself with. When I was still trying to lose, I would have a popsicle, or a fiber one brownie, or a couple of squares of quality chocolate every day. I'd have a slice of pizza for lunch sometimes. As long as you are making smart decisions the rest of the day, you should be able to fit a treat in.

Also look at how fast you are trying to lose. If you're hungry all the time, you're probably going too fast. It might be hard to be patient, but what's the point of rushing if you're never going to finish?

I put my stats in and I have 1550 calories a day and I said I wanted to lose a lb a week which was recommended

I asked basically this same thing about a little over a week ago. I struggle with the same thing about re-starting. I went to 1 lb a week to start with, am eating most of my exercise calories, and don't have ANY restrictions for myself. As long as I fit in my calories (or at least close) I eat what I want. I think that was the biggest change.

I was coming off doing Keto off and on for like 3 years, so I had this restriction mentality that was really screwing with me.

Start slow. Do it one day at a time, and don't put too much pressure on yourself. For me so far, it's a bit trial and error. Every day, I try to eat something different to figure out what helps fill me up, and what makes me feel hungrier.

Take look at how you’re using your calories. Do you get enough protein? Fat? If I go too far down the low fat path I get this agitated never satisfied thing.

And this kinda helped me- I quit telling myself I was starving or felt like I was starving. Fact is I’ve never been more than a little uncomfortably hungry in my entire life. Saying I was starving was a wild exaggeration and unhelpful.

And do you plan snacks? It also helped me when I did feel hungry to know it was only temporary.
