Use a calorie deficit to lose fat.
If you wish to lift weights, start with what is heavy for you, then progress.
Using a proven programme is recommended, as is eating back exercise calories when using MFP for your calorie goal.

While lifting has nothing to do with fat loss, you should still do some strength training to help preserve muscle mass while losing weight.4

Yeah. You are right and I was wrong. I was thinking in the 320 range, and you are ~110-120. I'm in the 200-210 range so yeah, you me and some plates is correct.

Yeah. You are right and I was wrong. I was thinking in the 320 range, and you are ~110-120. I'm in the 200-210 range so yeah, you me and some plates is correct.

Just a quick addition:
Yes, heavy lifting will burn fat, but it’s correct what the other posters have said, you’re not going to see weight loss the way you expect. The more muscle you add, the higher your weight will go because you’re going to build muscle. Muscle needs lots of water and protein, so be sure to be getting enough.
Having said, once you GET the muscle up, it will burn more calories at rest. However you can’t track or account for those calories, so it’s important to remember that.
I posted a while back about my own struggle with weight loss vs fat loss using heavy weight. Lifted heavy for a month, scale didn’t budge. Decided to change my macros for lower carbs and higher protein and within a week the scale was moving again.
To sum it all up: more muscle means higher metabolism, but won’t “melt lbs” like many imply. It just helps your metabolism stay hotter for longer. But again, GET ENOUGH PROTEIN.2
