My Big Fat Fabulous Life

My Big Fat Fabulous Life is coming back on for a new season.
Why I applaud her for living her life to the fullest on her terms. I have to say I have a problem that she isn’t really promoting good health. Being that over weight has such bad consequences on your body.
What do you think of her and the show and the message she is sending?

Honestly where do you think she is promoting her weight, other than the cutesy title of her show? I’ve watched the show and her weight isn’t the main topic. She’s living her life just as we are.10

I think if you’re interested in watching shows that promote good health, then watch those shows. I’ve never gotten the impression that the purpose of this show was to encourage anyone to lose weight, it’s not a weight loss show. It’s an insightful look at one young adult woman’s life, while she does young adult woman things, who at the same time happens to be “fat.” Can you tell yet that I’m a fan?11

Of course the show is about her weight. Would she even have a show if she wasn’t?9

My wife loves that show...
I enjoy pretending to despise it, while secretly enjoying it lol...
Sure a lot of the stories and plots of the show are pretty dumb... But I get a kick out of it
If you've ever laughed at something and rolled your eyes at the same time... You get me
On to the weight subject -
I feel the show is more about her showing heavy people that they can have a life without having to feel left out or in the shadows.
She is trying to lose weight like everyone else, and like most she fails time and time again... I think others watching her show and failing as well, can find peace in this.
I shed several tears for her last season, watching her trying to complete that 5k or 10k... Because, I've got a pretty good idea what that's like.
And now that I've found probably the best health of my life... I can't help but cheer her on with my heart, as well as anyone in her shoes...
Because I've been there13 -
I think her show is about the struggles of a real person. I enjoy watching her life as she tries to live it the best that she can. The message of her show is to love yourself no matter what. If you wait to love yourself after you've lost weight, then that's a shame. You have to start with loving yourself as you are and then work on your health related goals. If you don't you'll end up never really loving yourself. You'll always look at the things you want to change instead of seeing the beauty you already have. There will always be things you don't like about yourself, but those shouldn't out-weigh the things that make you beautiful.7

She started out as a YouTube dancer. While she’s overweight, the show just shows her life. Again, it’s not the focus of her show.3

I feel conflicted about a show that somehow glamorizes fat as fabulous. It isn't fabulous. I also feel conflicted when I walk into Target now and most of the mannequins are now overweight sized female figures. I don't believe in body shaming.. but now as a society we are going to condition ourselves to think being overweight is normal and even desirable? Then the health problems our nation faces because of obesity.. it is insane.10

I don't like this show . It's saying it's ok to be big.. no it's not healthy .. we are all beautiful in all our sizes and yes we shouldn't shame but we should support each other in a healthy life style.

I quit TV for a reason, thanks for the reminder why...6

I'm not convinced she's promoting herself as being fat. It's her life. She IS fat, let's face it. She has a show and it shows her out with friends, dating, being with family, just like the rest of us. The aren't talking about her weight for an hour. I read her book and she went to college, did some YouTube dance videos which she was always interested in, and that's how she got the show.

This whole thread is disgusting. She's a human. With thoughts and feelings. Living and breathing. If you think she is disgusting for her weight, if you're DISGUSTED by something so trivial as someone's weight - you're a disgusting human being. I can even begin to describe how low you are. I'm disturbed right now. Ridiculous. I'm disgusted.12

Same. I got rid of cable almost a year and a half ago and don't miss it at all. I only watch sports on TV anyway.
When I did have cable I'd only watch scenes of this show if Babs, Whitney's mom was on. She's funny.1 -

I agree!! Its hard to believe all these comments I don't watch the show personally but I've seen previews why people hate so much as someone heavy having a show?5 -

I don’t agree that the show glamorizes fat as fabulous. In fact, I think it does a good job of showing how being fat makes life difficult in ways people who are an average weight don’t realize. I think the title, “My Big Fat Fabulous Life,” and the show itself are meant to break the stereotype that being fat and fabulous are characteristics that are at odds with one another. It seems that most people believe it’s one or the other and someone can’t be both. I like seeing Whitney prove that that is false episode after episode. She is fat, AND she is fabulous. It’s inspiring.3
