This research suggests that eating late at night could be more dangerous than you think. Compared to eating earlier in the day, prolonged delayed eating can increase weight, insulin and cholesterol levels, and negatively affect fat metabolism, and hormonal markers implicated in heart disease, diabetes and other health problems, according to recent results.

Do you have a link to the actual study?
According to the article, the study consisted of 9 individuals, which is a pretty small sample from which to draw sweeping conclusions.
One of my first thoughts is that since the sleep times didn't change, and the second part of the study had people eating right before bedtime, I would want to know if the quality of sleep for the participants changed, since many people don't sleep well on a full stomach. The symptoms attributed to eating late are also associated with disturbed sleep, and I would want to know how that might have been accounted for.10 -
I don’t have the original study.2

I didn’t see anything that indicated the amount of food consumed - they didn’t include that variable and unless they controlled for that I question the results - maybe delayed eating caused ppl to eat more over the course of the day which then changed the hormonal profile
There is other research out there that addresses muscle retention and sleep where a carb-y snack before bed improves sleep quality and lean muscle retention in a caloric deficit5
