And on the Seventh Day I Rested!

So I woke up this morning with some mild pain in my lower and middle back and I thought to myself that maybe I should take a day of rest from my normal fitness routine. And I wanted some imput from you all: Do you take rest days? How often?

I currently exercise 3-4 days a week, so I suppose I rest on the other 3-4. Hah. Seriously, though, I ride my bike to work every day so that is a little exercise right there (though really only a little as it is 10 minutes one way) and I went for a walk yesterday. No serious exercise on 3-4 days out of 7 right now, though.
If you are sore, either rest or just go for a walk or something that is low-impact. No shame in resting, and depending on how long you've been at this, a rest day is probably a good idea anyway.0 -
I hit the gym M-F, and do nothing on Saturday and Sunday.0

I don't tend to rest for 2 reasons:
1. I need the extra calories for food!
2. I don't work out enough to need a lot of rest
However, if you're tired or hurting, I say rest. One day won't undo all your good work. If you feel you *have* to do something, then go for a nice walk. :flowerforyou:0 -
My PT insists I take 1 rest day a week (but only 1)0

Just like the "Good Old Days", I rest on Sunday. I go to church, enjoy a nice meal with my family, take an afternoon nap, and don't worry about excercise for the day unless it's something fun, like a leisure bike ride with the family. You need to take a day off once a week to recoup and recharge yourself.0

I take one rest day but I do yoga and stretching on that day so I still feel like I'm moving and doing good things for my body...
Best,

I have two rest days. One in the week on the day when I start work early and finish late. The other at the weekend. I do walk to work on the work rest day, and on the weekend rest day I get the gardening and housework done, so I do try and keep active, just not in a way that raises my heart rate or would count as exercise. I've always been told that you should listen to your body and give it rest when it needs it.
Hope your back feels better soon!0 -
I take Sundays as my rest day....
I really feel your body needs at least one day off a week.

Me too... I like no commitments on Sunday. Sometimes I will go to the gym because I need to burn some energy off but its never planned on. I like leaving my Sundays pretty much wide open for possibilities even if that's a nap, visiting family or watching an old movie. The only thing I don't "rest" on is healthy eating and water intake.0
