So it's the start of a new year and here I am...AGAIN...trying to figure out what is so broken in me the that I can't seem to get a handle on this food/weight loss/health thing. I'm not stupid, I have worked in the nursing profession for the last 28 years and have a good insight into the biology of the human body. I can do math well enough to add up calories. So where is the breakdown?? After spending a fair amount of time doing an emotional autopsy of sorts I believe I have come to a realization:

I am Pavlov's dog. When that bell rings I get what I desire. DING! Fries are done!

Society has conditioned us to believe, especially in the last 20 years, that we can have what we want, when we want it, with no waiting and little to no effort. What a crock and I have totally bought into it. At least in the weight loss arena. I want to be at an appropriate weight for my height with a healthy BMI, muscle definition, and an enviable booty....YESTERDAY.

So now begins the long and arduous journey of un-learning all the junk and embracing the truth that somewhere along the line got buried under all the hype. I know how to do this; I always have.

Time to set this slow cooker on low and trust the process.

There is a challenge group .... The Ultimate Accountability Challenge ... that you might find helpful. It is totally process focused. You set your calorie allowance and pick your preferred method of exercise. Then you track your calories, do at least 20 minutes a day if your preferred exetcuse, and report in. Not tracking, exercising or eating over your calorie allowance means you take a "pass" day.

Everyone can "win" in this challenge ... just get to the last day of the month with no more than 3 pass days.

The group has a fair share of experienced MFPers and is very welcoming and supportive. Best of all. If you follow these basic, simple steps, you WILL succeed!

I totally get it. I’ve been “trying to lose weight” more times than I can count, yet I keep gaining more weight. I’ve been at again for 4 days now and I’m determined to make it stick. Hugs to you. We can do this!
