i'm 53 and very unhealty. this year must be a lifestyle change for me. i was looking into plant based likestyle.
really don't know much about good nutrition, or healthy eating. so i'm searching the web trying to absorb lots of info.
I recentally have been sick, I have asthma, copd and vocal cord dysfunction, so my lungs are my weakest link, also have high blood pressure and a dr would was say i'm obese. so as of jan 1 st I have choosen to create a brand new me, a change of lifestyle. no fast food, or processed I want good clean food. already fron 1/1 , I feel good

    thank you, I'm so excited for this brand new lifestyle change. i feel so motivated . hope this feeling does not disappear. loosing weight would be a plus ,as of right this second its at the bottom of my list. I want to be healthy, feel alive & energetic. I feel i'm off to a good start. I am conscious of what I put into my mouth now. no more fast food, processed food, cheese..... . I am open to any feedback, thoughts, opinions, helpful hints. to be honest I have no idea about good nutrition, my mother gave me a name of a dr. of a book she's reading. I googled that & my journey began. my sister belong to this web site & invited me. i'm so blessed because of both of them. i'm on a mission to be a better & healthier me. 2019 is my year for a lifestyle change.

    Hi Debra. As you are a newbie the best thing to say is log all you eat and drink, get a food scale, log in everyday, and invite some supportive mfp friends but ensure you give support in return. With that combination you will succeed. Good luck

    Welcome Debra, and congrats on the decision to change your lifestyle.

    My few cents worth for you would be;
    1. Weight loss comes from calorie deficit, no harder, no simpler than that.
    2. Log your food as accurate as you are able to, use a scale, especially in the beginning.
    3. You are right to reduce on the fast and processed foods - they don't do much good, and clean food tastes better too... Although, nothing (unless your Dr say it has to be that way) should be forbidden - just moderated. That will make your journey more sustainable..
    4. Start an exercise regimen that is doable within the restrictions you currently have (agree with your Dr) - I would propose to look at walking (initially on a threadmill if you have a sudden need to stop and don't want a long way back...), rowing or elliptical. If at start 10 minutes is what you are able to do, you do 10 minutes... And before long, it will be 15... then 20 and so on..
    5. Get some "now" pictures - they will help you keep the motivation fresh.

    Good luck!
