hi - another newbie here looking for help, motivation and advice. I started on low carb before Thanksgiving and quickly found out I don't like eggs all that well. Joined the local gym and do cardio and some strength. Since then I've gone to eating healthy. I've lost 7 # but they have been very slow coming off for sure. I'm frustrated and need direction and advice. I have a low thyroid, very high cholesterol. I've always been about 20 # overweight but now I'm 199 and it just doesn't come off. Any advice would be so welcome. Congratulations to those of you who are on a healthy lifestyle, stand up and take a bow!

Thanks!

Welcome to MFP and congrats on your 7 lb weight loss as well as your decision to get healthy. I'm 56 and I've lost 38 lbs so far with the assistance of MFP. Are you tracking your food in the diary? I eat a low carb/high protein diet but the main thing is that I stick to 1350 calories (I'm short). How much do you want to lose altogether? 7 lbs since Thanksgiving is pretty good.

Well, I'm brand new too, and turned 60 last June. I can tell you, you're in a much better place than I am. Maybe you'll be the one to motivate as well. Good luck!

My advice - don't do a diet. Get a food scale. Weigh and log everything that passes your lips. After a week or so, look back over your food log. What foods weren't satisfying? What foods/drinks weren't worth the calories? Weed those out and replace with foods/drinks that help you reach your goal.

I second this from @quiksylver296 . It is sound advice.

I am 62 I lost 32lbs last year and am aiming to lose 30 more this year.

Consistency is key. Even if you go over your calorie allowance one day just get back on track the next. Don't let the odd bad day derail your efforts.

I would add that losing 7 lbs since before Thanksgiving, considering the holidays in that stretch, is kind of awesome! Expecting around 1 lb per week is usually a pretty good place for your head to be. If you lose more, great, but expecting it can be a psych-out. Good luck!

thank you all for your comments, this is very reassuring. Can anyone please post where to find typical days food for about 1300 calories? Thank you all so much!
