Calories & Painting a House...

This summer, I've been working on painting my uncle's house. It's a two-story home, and medium-sized.
The task includes climbing a ladder, walking around the perimeter a bit to refill on paint, and, of course, painting.
So far, with my exercise diary, I've not recorded any of this. I'm not sure exactly how many calories I'm burning there from 8AM to 3PM, with only a couple of 10 min. breaks in between.
Do any of you have an estimate on how many calories are burned while painting a house?

It would depend on your body. Everyone is different. I'd get a HRM. That would be your best bet.0

I think the only way you will really know is to get one of those calorie counter things that you wear on your arm. I feel the same way when I am doing P90X. I want to get a calorie counter thing so i can really see how much I burn. Good luck with the house painting. I would assume that you at LEAST burn 1000 calories if not 2000 if you are really going non stop up and down the ladder and painting, painting, painting.0

I guess the details will be in if you have been losing weight while doing the painting of the house...I would think that you have been. You could try and figure out if it is "walking" and look up the options there or "housework" and look up the options there. Yes you shoudl get some credit for exercise but it will also depend if you put your lifestyle as sendetary, moderately active, very active, etc. Depending upon that setting I think will determine whether this is actually exercise for you or just living your life. Good luck on your journey. Sorry I couldn't give you real information.0

I'd list it under 'cleaning--moderate effort'0

I painted my bedroom this summer & although It can be hard work & although it can make you sweat, I wouldn't count it as exercise. If you really wanted to, you could put in walking upstairs for using the ladder but it ain't really worth it. I wouldn't think your burning enough calories with that to really include it. I don't know why, but there's fishing in the exercise database. Really? Fishing an exercise? Not in my book.0

Thanks for all of the advice, folks.
I might get a calorie counter, just to have, in case I run into any other odd jobs in the future.0
