The Best Unsweetened Iced Tea!

I make this all the time and the recipe makes two quarts, so I frequently double it.

* 2 cups boiling water
* 6 cups cool water
* 6 tea bags
* 1 pinch of baking soda

All you have to do is boil the water, take a heat proof pitcher (or you can just make it in a pot then pour it into stuff once it's completely made, that's what I do) and put the pinch of baking soda in that. Then, pour your hot water in, and add your tea bags. Let them steep for 15 minutes and add your cool water, then refrigerate.

For those of you who like it very slightly sweet, adding a little sugar is not going to hurt it!

Why the baking soda, you ask? It takes the bitterness out and leaves you with clear tea!

    I had never heard of putting baking soda in tea until a yr or so ago. I still have not tried it but after reading this I'm going to try it. I love sweet tea, but I know we need to leave out the sugar....thanks to you both. I'll be making some tomorrow....

    Wow, I will have to try that, I don't usually like brewed tea that well because of the bitterness! I LOVE Nestea instant unsweetened decaf.
    Thanx for sharing! :drinker:

  • I make tea a gallon at a time. I no longer drink sodas. I drink lots of water and several glasses of iced tea in the evening.

    I will try the pinch of baking soda because I have noticed that my tea is cloudy at times.

    This is exactly how I make my tea too. The baking soda takes out the bitterness. If you like it sweet, you can add the Splenda granules. :)
  • You're welcome, guys! I also have a fritatta recipe I'll share later tonight that's 500 calories for the ENTIRE PAN! (:

    The baking soda really is the trick. I've become a tea (hot and cold) and water addict!
