New Job, New to living alone, Starting my weight loss over again

8 months ago I took a promotion that required me to move up to OKC away from my long time home in Dallas. I quickly gained 30 lbs and all of the effort I had been putting in to eating healthy was gone. I find it hard to stay motivated since this major life event occurred. Now I spend too much time siting in the apartment downing empty calories in snacks and alcohol. I am beginning to regret that carer move. I could use some support and motivation from anyone who has been in this situation.

Hi! I think you're in great spot, as old habits die hard. You're in a great position to create the life you want - join a gym, make new friends, buy & eat the foods you want, be whoever you want. What an awesome opportunity to reinvent yourself. Do not let this pass you by!

Does your apartment have a gym? There are a lot of YMCA's in OKC that are great if you can afford it. If not, there are still plenty of other gyms that are much cheaper. I would love living alone, getting to do the things I want on my own timeline, lol. (shhhhh, don't tell my husband and kid that I said that, lmao)

I don't really want to reinvent myself, I am happy with who I am. I used to have great habits. I have a hard time going to New places if i don't have someone to introduce me. It is just hard because i am still transitioning from Dallas and it hard to set a routine.

OKC has a lot to offer during the summer. Find the OKC Gazette (free almost everywhere) each week and start finding events that interest you! There are tons of opportunities to meet new people.

No my apartment does not have a Gym. Honestly I enjoy having the place to myself, I just cant figure out how to keep motivated. The new position came with significantly more stress.

Do you have any friendly co-workers that you could maybe try to make friends with?

There is the true challenge. I am the Manager of this location, It can cause real issues blurring the lines between work and friends.

Oooh, yeah that is a challenge then. Idk, when I moved here I met friends at the gym but it took a long time.

Sorry to hear that you are in a rough spot. It usually takes me a year to embrace a new living situation, especially if there are challenges involved... And, sometimes yes, it just s*cks to be management! :# I finally met friends by taking classes I was interested in, and also at church. Having a positive attitude and making yourself available is half the battle. Good luck! :)

Don't waste your time and energy regretting the career and location change. Change is good even though it's difficult at first.

What activities or hobbies do you enjoy? You say you "used to have good habits". What were those and how can you establish some of those in your new life?

It's all about perspective, really. New city, new job, new living environment can be really exciting! Find a way to make the most of it. Every day won't be spectacular but you can definitely make improvements little by little.

Well I used to have a heated pool that i would swim laps in, I had a huge Kitchen to cook in and meal prep I also had plenty of space to constantly be involved in a hobby.

Truthfully I think it is the lack of friends that has really been the biggest issue, and yes I have made several attempts to go out an be active.

I understand. It is difficult to find a new group of friends. I guess I'd just keep trying different things and possibly some local meet up groups? I've never used them but I see them suggested often for people in your type of situation.
