To lose weight and "tone up" (whatever that means to you specifically), you'll need a calorie deficit. The specific foods you choose are less important, for the purposes of weight loss, than your overall calorie goal.

Have you tried inputting your stats and goals into MFP and getting a calorie goal?

i eat the same foods i always have. i just weigh and log it all now.

i figure out what im having for dinner, and work backward for the rest of the day. because of my work schedule, I prep dinners for a week, once a week (mostly slow cooker or freeze ahead oven meals). those recipes are either in, or entered in, the recipe builder. easy peasy. i make what i want/feel like, or what is requested. you can get an idea of what i make by looking at my diary (pretty sure its open)

lost 120 pounds doing it that way. not gonna change any time soon lol

My go to meals for work are one pan baked dishes. I usually throw in chicken, carrots, celery, onion, then add some seasoning. Bake it for 40 minutes and then you have 3-4 clean meals prepped. You can add more protein/calories depending on your exercise routine. What areas are you looking to tone up?

My prep is to cook the things which are slow, such as whole grains and meat, ahead of time, and add fresh veggies when I make meals. So I have quinoa and steel cut oats, some roast chicken, and a roast pork loin, along with peppers, onions, etc.

Pork loins are great for meal prep when you get sick of chicken - they are almost as low in calories and a whole one is easily sliced for stir-fry and sandwiches.
