How do you wake up (other than shower and coffee)?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Long story short: I've had lots of relatively minor energy/fitness/healthy issues in recent years (after third child and long commute to work, etc.). After getting back to regular exercise, eating healthy, dropping some excess weight, and incorporating supplements, I'm almost where I want to me (in terms of how I feel, quality of life, and available energy). I have lots more weight to lose and I'm not buff yet, but I'm on track to get there (thanks to MFP and my MFP friends)!!!

My current gripe is that I continue to have a really really tough time getting out of bed.

I've cut out the coffee/sugar roller coaster. I am getting enough sleep. I can make excuses on certain days (such as late night at work or extra hard workout, etc.), but on other days, can't find an excuse.

I'm sleeping better than ever (as I'm eating modestly and exercising). Sometimes I sleep a solid eight hours! I even have pretty even energy throughout the day. I can tell that someday soon I'll return to being my energizer bunny self. I am so happy! I feel good.

Again, the remaining problem is that I feel like led in the morning. I wake up and have NO DESIRE to get out of bed. I used to "wake-up" via shower and coffee. Sometimes I can talk hubby into massaging me awake (that's the best), but that can't happen everyday.

I don't want the coffee anymore. I don't really need a shower (as I often swim or exercise at night and shower before bed).

What do you all do to wake yourself up? What else can I do to jump start my day?

Usually my alarm clock goes off, scares me to hear some radio DJ yelling at me and then I have to get up and pee.

Are you still drinking caffeine? Sodas, tea, etc.? Also, are you sleeping too much? I don't need a full 8 hours. I'm up after 7 hours tops and ready to go. If I sleep another hour, I won't want to get out of bed and I'll be groggy all day.

That said, I've never been a morning person. My burst of energy comes in the afternoon/evening, so this is when I exercise. I shower at night before bed, so when I get up I just have to fix the bedhead and I'm good to go.

I try to get up at the same time every day ... It was hard at first but after a few weeks I got used to it. I think it 's paid off

Diet Coke. I don't like coffee, but the caffeine, cold burst, and bubbles do a better job than anything else I've tried. I hate mornings but this is the most effective thing I've found.
  • Get out of bed / Keep job / Continue making money / Don't live in box on street

    Motivation that works without fail.

Hello and congratulations on your healthy lifestyle.
I workout in the morning. Have been doing it for over a year and love it. I look forward to it and eagerly get up. I tried working out in the afternoon or evening but at times work, family, friends or just the long day gets in the way. Tackling it first thing in the morning gave me energy for the rest of the day.

I was never a caffiene person in any form, so the exercise is my wake up.

Thank you. You guys are too funny.

I do manage to get up in time to get to work and keep paying the bills.

I'd like, however, to get up early, workout, have breakfast with the kids, shower and look beautiful . . . and then go to work! (As it is, I barely get to work, then my day starts thereafter.)

I don't think I sleep too much, but I'll consider that. I sleep 7-9 hours a night usually.

Cutting out the caffeine should help. Switch to decaf, eliminate diet sodas (if you drink any, even if they are caffeine-free), and maybe switch your exercising to mornings?

My alarm goes off at 3. Several snoozes later I'm usually up and functional by 4, at which point I go exercise. Then I come back and continue on with my day.

Of course, with THIS routine, I start losing my energy after lunch...so I rely on a second wind to get through the afternoon.

i don't know how this would fit into your lifestyle, but i usually can drag myself out of bed with the promise of a yummy breakfast (i typically wake up very hungry), and then i put on loud, energetic music on the drive to work.
  • I find it motivating when I know I can watch a tv show from the night before while I drink my French press coffee.

OKAY, thanks gals and guys. I think I'll try the loud music + the mental exercise in bed, followed by a yummy breakfast and morning exercise . I hope someday to regularly wake up rested and ready to go BEFORE my alarm!

I get up promptly at 6am. I used to have to drag myself out and I would feel like hell, but for some reason I have no trouble getting up. Guess my eating better and exercise just gave me loads more energy.

I really hope that in time, this will happen to me.
