Buying an elliptical

I am buying an elliptical trainer (from craigslist). I am wondering what brands are the better ones. I prefer to stay around $250 or so, so a Cybex or True Fitness one is not an option, due to cost. I need one that my husband (tall and big-muscular) and I can use without being a piece of caca. Also, which ones to stay away from:)

I have a pro-form right next to me as I type.. and I drive across town to use the ones at the gym. They seem so much more substantial than my residential quality one.
  • I bought the Body Champ BRM3671 Cardio Dual Trainer from Amazon last winter. It is a dual bike/elliptical. While it works well for me I wouldn't recommend it for your needs as I am only 5'3" and I can't imagine the range of motion would be enough if your husband is tall.

I would check Craigslist...I saw lots of good deals on there after I bought mine.

I have a Nordictrak and not very happy with it. We've had to repair it ourselves a few times (right after warranty ran out). The parts were very costly to order and not very good customer service either.

I've learned from buying workout equipment, "you get what you pay for" Personally, we have a Nordic Track Ellptical. It was about 900 dollars and that was about 4 yrs ago.

For today's ellpitical, I'd recomend a Live Strong. (****'s sporting goods sells them). We bought a treadmill from the Live Strong Line and LOVE it!

We bought an Audio Strider 800 at Sears a couple of years ago. It is now getting some use, and it seems sturdy enough for me or my husband to make use of. I like that it is fairly quiet.
