Does anyone have any experience using ankle weights while running/walking/treamilling? I'm considering trying them, but wonder if it would make any difference. Thanks!

my understanding is that ankle weights are great for lifting and such if you don't have a home gym, but can cause injury to knees, ankles, and hips when used during mobility. Do some real research before committing to this and stop at the first sign of any discomfort.

I wouldn't use them for that. Get a weighted vest and wear that. I use ankle weights for weight lifting. I wear them and do exercises I would do on machines at the gym. I also hold them and do arm and ab exercises and squats. The weighted vest is the way to go to get more of a burn.

I love using ankle weights to work out, I have found the most comfortable to be the 2.5 lb (each weight) I use them when I do the Leslie Sansone walking DVD (I jog instead of walk) ......sometimes I use the 5 lb ankle weights when just walking on the treadmill.

I use ankle weights when I walk. We have a lot of hills, so when I walk, I wear them. I also use wrist weights as well.

Ankle weights can be dangerous with prolonged use while running (walking is not as bad). The cause you to change your gait which can lead to chronic injuries/pains from bad running form, even at fairly light weights.

Read the labels on the weights, they'll tell you not to use them for walking or running. Ankle weights are great for strength training, but not mobility.
