There is no best time... it's entirely personal preference.10

There's nothing wrong with eating at night as long as you remain within your calorie goals. Meal timing is all about personal preference; eat at a calorie deficit and you'll lose weight regardless of other factors.7

when you're asleep, so you don't choke....16 -
totally personal preference. i save calories to eat right before bed. cuz that works for me.5

I eat up until 11:30pm. And get up at 6:30 am each day. As long as you stay in your calorie goal limits, meal timing is basically irrelevant.

The recommendation to not eat after a certain time was to prevent mindless eating, as that was when people would snack without thinking. If you track your food you can eat at any time that suits your fancy. There's no biological basis in it, just psychological and habitual.7

Night shift workers.
Daylight savings time beginning/ending.
Living in different time zones.
Traveling across different time zones.
Seriously, your body doesn't just shut off or quit working or whatever based on a clock. When you start & stop eating is entirely your personal preference & what your schedule allows.3 -
Unless there is a medical reason to stop eating at a certain time then stop eating any time to suit you.
I have to take a medication last thing before I go to bed and as the medication only works properly on a nearly empty stomach I have my dinner about 7pm and then no snacking.1 -

Dammit, you stole my line.0 -
Agree with the prevalent comments here that it doesn’t matter. I’d like to share my approach. I prefer to close my feeding window by 6:00 pm. Like 5:00 pm better but that’s harder for me to do.0

I eat as late as I want too as long as its weighed and logged. Last night I had a serving of cereal right before I went to bed at 11:30pm because I was craving it.0

I'm typically shoving food in my face as I'm sitting in bed about to turn the lights off before I drift off to sleep. Unless it causes you GI distress, it doesn't matter what time of day you eat.3

I've actually fallen half asleep while chewing on something or another at times.6

I always eat at night, shortly before bed. I sleep better with food on my stomach. Never hindered weight loss or maintenance.
It's all a matter of personal preference.3 -

And I sleep better with a few hours between my last meal and bed Just goes to show we're all a little different, and these arbitrary weight loss 'hacks' aren't worth the time it takes to read them!5 -
Don't eat after midnight... you might turn into a gremlin... lol4

Yep. My husband is like you and has to stay up a bit after eating too.2 -

What happens if you spill water on yourself?
(PS That movie terrified me when I was a kid!)0
