Help I am a 64 yr old morbidly obese female who had multiple pulmonary embolisms in the lungs which compromised the right side of my heart. This happened in October of last year. Can you recommend an exercise regime that I can maintain. I experience breathlessness upon exertion and so I’m scared to do anything and I’m gaining weight. My calorie intake is about 1600 kcals or less daily.

Well, weight loss is about calories. Regardless of whether or not your medical team has okayed you for exercise you can still lose weight without it.

Teach yourself how to log your food accurately, consistently. Learn about nutrition.

You can't really lose that many pounds just by moderate exercise anyway, it's going to come down to food.

It would be impressively irresponsible for any of us to give you much, if any, advice about exercise in this situation. Ask your doctor(s), we don't have your medical chart - they do. I would also ask them about going to physical therapy.

Get a referral from your doctor for physical therapy. Your PT is the best one to advise you on an exercise regime.

However, you shouldn't be gaining weight on 1600 calories or less a day. How tall are you?

There are mistakes that people commonly make that cause them to not lose weight that we might be able to spot if you change your Diary Sharing settings to Public: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings

I had a PE and a heart attack in my 20s. Like everyone said here you need to talk to your cardiologist and doctor about what exercises to start with. Mine suggested light walking but also gave me advice on things to look for. The hardest thing for me was the mental block. Anytime I got short of breath from exercising I panicked, thinking it was another PE. It took awhile for me to get over that fear.

But in your next follow up, talk to your doctor about what exercises you can do. My PE experience was different from everyone else's, and your doctor will know the state of your heart/lungs and what you can do.
