My daily calorie goal is 1500. In total I have consumed 1,354 today. Along with walking 9,820 steps I also burned off 187 calories (transferred from my health app).

Why is my steps calorie adjustment showing as -487?

Screenshots. When my walks from the health app sync over my steps calorie adjustment goes from 134 to -487?

I think it depends on your settings. First off you must have enabled negative adjustments. In addition the other thing could be your activity level. If you are set as very active it might be adjusting down for the lower amount of activity. There are others here who have a much better understanding of this so hopefully one of them will chime in. I know on mine at the end of the day sometimes my exercise calories get reduced and I'm set as sedentary!

Your syncing steps and adding in walking as exercise? That sounds like counting those twice.

No. I just do the exercise and it syncs itself. I don’t add anything manually

I've come to realise that the algorithm used by MFP for step calculation is pretty much garbage (but MFP support won't admit it)

I previously had my smart watch sync with google fit to record my steps and then google fit would sync with MFP. While doing it this way It would regularly add a reasonable amount of calories based on the number of steps I took and my sedentary setting. The problem was the number of steps calculated wasn't as accurate as I had hoped as google fit seemed to be adding extra steps that my watch wasn't picking up (the watch is super accurate).

So I changed and started syncing my watch with UA Record and using UA Record to sync with MFP. This now accurately records number number of steps I take in a day. Good news right?

Only I never get any calories credited for steps. I've had days where I've taken 4k steps, 0 calories, 8000 steps, 0 calories, 12000 steps, 0 calories.

That's not even getting into the fact that my steps appear in MFP under 'Map My Ride' an app I don't even have installed on my phone. Tech support told me that everything is fine. Yeah? A sedentary setting and hitting >10k steps not crediting any calories is fine (eye-roll).
