Losing weight in your late 30s with health problems

I was diagnosed with an illness around 5 years ago which is managed by medication and surgery. 1 month after my first surgery I had gained 14lbs. The weight has steadily increased since then and I now want to lose around 30lbs. My illness makes it difficult to stick to an exercise plan as some days the pain is too much. But my plan is to stick to a daily calorie deficit (with a bit wiggle room once or twice a week for treats) lower my carbs, and aim to gradually increase my workouts. I’ve got more surgery planned this year so taking into account my recovery time, I want to be happy with my weight (and my health) by October. Anyone else in a similar situation?

It sounds like you have a good plan but have you run it by your doctors to get their input/ok? It can be pretty tough to exercise and diet with health problems depending what it is. I would just try to make sure I didn't do anything to prevent my body from healing and recovery.

Not saying dont exercise or anything like that, just to make sure you have a plan that is supportive of your health overall.

Wishing you all the best on the road to wellness!

Thanks @its_cleo, I’m meeting with my surgeon next week and will run everything by him. My bmi at the moment is in the obese category so hopefully he will be happy that I’m trying to get that down before my next surgery.
