emotional eating

I've been doing this dieting/lifestyle change for about a week now on orders from my doctor. Family history of high blood pressure is catching up to me with all this extra weight on me. It's been easier to take to than I thought it would be, but I got hit with a major curveball today. My job is being eliminated. After nearly 10 years I am apparently disposable. Out of a management team of 8 between 2 stores, they are going to have one general manager for both stores and my DM chose the other SM from the other store.
Its leaving me feeling shaken and unsure of myself. Apparently I am not as good of a manager as I thought I was and now I have to start over somewhere else.
They are giving me a severance package that would allow my DH and I to move down south and instead of comforting me, my husband has spent the whole damn night looking at jobs and houses for sale. He's getting irritated with me while I am sitting here and crying. I know if I remove the emotions from the equation, I should be doing the same thing, but I just got this news today and need time to process this whole thing.

At this point I want to say eff it and go make a big pot of sushi rice, toss in a stick of butter and salt, roll into balls and cover with peanut sauce and eat myself sick. This is what the old me would do when I can't get the emotional support I need. Just hoping typing this out will keep me from undoing all my hard work this week. I already ate 5 cookies today but they were in my calorie range, even if I might have gone over my sugar for the day.

What else can I do, other than eat and cry into the food I shouldn't be eating? Any advice or ideas would be welcome.

Thank you for letting me vent.

Wow so sorry to hear about your job. I hate how corporate can just cut out people. Maybe this closed door will lead you to an even better job opportunity. I find that I want to stress eat too what really helps my mood is to get outside for a walk or a run.

Sorry to hear about your job, that sucks.

Exercise is a great stress reliever. A hard workout always leaves me feeling better afterward.

I also think it helps to throw yourself into projects. Even if you don’t feel like it and would rather wallow - help your husband look for houses and get into the job search. Feeling productive and like you are doing something to solve the problem can help a lot.

That is a good idea. Doctor doesn’t want me running just yet but said a walk would help. I looked at my LinkedIn profile and saw a message from a recruiter for another company, so maybe thats my better opportunity.
