Do macros matter?

I’m trying to get healthier and maybe lose weight, but what I want to know is should I be tracking my macros? I eat healthy enough, but I usually eat a lot of carbs and fats because I’ll have nuts and oatmeal and that just adds up. Can I just track my calories to lose weight or do I have to track my macros as well?

For weight loss the only thing that matters is that you're at the correct calorie deficit for your weight loss goal.

Macros is more for preference (some people find different ratios help them feel fuller, longer etc), and then for those who have certain medical conditions, like T2, need to be mindful of their macros. Also, macros may come into play for people who have certain fitness goals.

But, for weight loss it's about calories.

Oh thank goodness then, I eat relatively healthy but still love my junk food lol, I think I’ll be fine as long as I don’t eat ice cream 24/7. Macro counting makes me more hungry I think, I don’t like being restricted in the carbs and fats since I love them both lol.

Nope. I've been following macros for years and calories are king. I eat like this because I want to make sure I get enough protein. So I make sure I'm eating at my calorie limit, I've hit my protein and then I let carbs and fats fall where they will.

My daughter is strict with all of her macros because she gets better results when she eats less fat.

    It's all individual choice.

It's better not to cut too low on protein, although how important getting more is may depend on your goals. What are you eating (in grams) of protein?
