I have been doing 30 day shred and jillian is kicking my *kitten*!! Im skipping it today bc my thighs and calfs hurt so bad that it hurts to move, literally. My fiance told me to take an ice bath. I suffered through that but im still in pain. Do you heat or ice sore muscles? so many ppl say different things.

And should i still do the workout tomorrow if im in pain? Is it safe to work out when your muscles hurt so bad? Help!! any suggestions to ease this pain would be greatly appreciated

  • Heat will relax your muscles... Ice helps with swelling

I, personally, would use both. Heat at night and Ice during the day. And if it hurts tooooo bad then I would slow down for a bit. But otherwise the best way to get rid of sore muscles faster is to work them out. If you stop working out, the soreness might last longer.

Put ice in a cloth and place on the affected area for 10-15 minutes. Do this a few times a day. Good luck!

    My experience?

Ice for injuries and warmth for sore muscles (that aren't injured - just sore from working out). Also, a couple of Ibuprofen will help too.

I always get in the bubble bath...warm/hot water really is relaxing after a heavy lift session! Last week the only thing to help me walk was the bathtub!! Try it...and it is so calming and relaxing your body will enjoy it!!!

Alternate with both. I traumatized my neck muscle and the doctor said to do both to get better blood circulation to it. =]

My chiropractor has always told me to ice the first 24 hours, and leave pack on as long as you can stand it. After 24 hours alternate heat and ice until pain is relieved. BUT, I'm not a doctor....it works for me and I have had 2 back surgeries so I get pain a lot.

I also have a personal trainer that body builds...she said go heavy and hurt every day! She said the more muscle you have the faster it will burn the fat! If you are still a bit sore, and work out...the pain will subside after awhile! I push through it, but that is what she told me to do...I lost 8 inches last week using her method!!!

For ice, we always use a bag of frozen peas.
  • do both....15-20 minutes ice...then 15-20 minutes heat...I am dealing with a sore lower back and ice and heat help a little but it has really been giving me problems mostly when I stand up to walk...lol...good luck sweetie

the rule is 30 heat 30 cold, so that you dont use either too long. the ice will reduce swelling and pain, the heat will relax the muscle and take out any knots. Try both- whatever helps you better! If you use ice though don't go over 30 minutes, it's not good for the tissues.

I had the same problem after I did P90X for a few days in a row. One of the instructors at our gym suggested a warm bath (shower works too) and then yoga while your muscles are still warm. If you can't do yoga just some simple stretching works too. You don't want to do anything with them while they're cold because you could injure yourself.

I hope it helps and that you feel better soon!

P90X for a few days in a row.

P90X got me so sore I could not walk up stairs...Get work outs....

But I would do a hot bath or a hot tub if you got it.
