I’m trying to also watch my carbs. Is the carbs in MFP net carbs or total carbs?

It depends what the users entered. US and Canada and products tend to be total, to her countries tend to be net.0

To expand on the above, the US entries and the entries MFP pulled from the USDA database are total carbs. You can get net carbs by subtracting fiber. You can add Fiber to your food diary by swapping out something you don't use, for example, I don't need to track Sodium so swapped that for Fiber.
However, other countries use net carbs. I see you are in the US. Try to stick to US entries.
Unfortunately, the "verified" green check marks in the MFP database are used for both user-created entries and system entries. To find system entries for whole foods, I get the syntax from the USDA database and plug that into MFP.
For packaged foods, I verify the label against what I find in MFP.0 -
