Has anyone tried the boiled egg diet for short term weight loss?

An egg is about 70 calories. How many you think you can down per day? I’d have to eat 35-40. How about just eat all sorts of foods in a reasonable deficit. Same end result minus brutal gas from all those eggs28

Omg, why? I love eggs but nothing but eggs? Ew. There is literally no reason why anyone should ever do this as a diet. Just eat whatever you want at a calorie deficit and aim to hit your macros.4

Only egg wouldn't be keto. You'll need plenty of veggies/salad along with protein & fat. Keto generally is:
5-10% carb/25% protein/65-80% fat
7-10c of veggies/salad per day.
Carbs & fats from healthy sources.
1-3 meals per day, no snacking in between.
Free-range meat (no hormones, GMOs, etc)
Pasture raised eggs.
Drink water when thirsty.
Keto along with Intermittent Fasting, for best results.
There's additional details for ketogenic program, those are few of the basics.
Look up: Dr. Berg DC, Dr. Berry, Dr. Jason Fung on YouTube. Those are the main few who I listen & learn from the most, although there are others as well along with keto-friendly recipes that'll help the body meet it's daily keto recommended macros.
Most importantly, it's sustainable way of healthy eating lifestyle that can be done long-term, and not a fad diet.
Eating only eggs isn't sustainable way of eating, and mostly robbing your body of other important nutrients.

Yea in short keto is low carb diet. most food will be made up of Protein / fat / carbs but of course some will be higher in fats or carbs or protein.3

I'm not recommending it, but of course all eggs would be keto. 20 eggs is 1420 cal, 7.2 carbs and net carbs, 95 g fat, and 126 g protein. So macros in percentages are 35% protein, 60% fat, 2% carbs (yes, off due to rounding). That's lower carb and high protein than necessary for keto, but would clearly be keto.
Re: "You'll need plenty of veggies/salad" -- for a healthy keto diet, IMO, yes, but clearly not required for keto and so long as 20 g is the rec (even 20 net), IMO hard to get. That pushes limiting veg. And plenty of people doing keto eat few veg and easily can doing 20 g carbs.
Re: keto typically being "7-10c of veggies/salad per day" -- no, no requirement of that. Plus, just 7 cups of broccoli is 33 carbs, just over 20 net carbs (so 10 would be way over), and broccoli is not high carb for a non starchy veg. Brussels are 32 g NET carbs for only 7 cups. Leafy greens, of course, are less, but that's not the only kind (or beneficial to eat) non starchy veg. Moreover, I'd bet good money that the vast majority of those doing keto eat nowhere near 7-10 cups of any veg, just based on observation. And people can eat that much without stressing when not doing keto (I found trying to stay at 60 g total, 35 g net was really hard and caused me to limit veg, and when I asked someone doing under 10 (and thinking that was far better) how she managed she seemed to think veg would get you nowhere near 10.
Oh, also, keto says zero about healthy sources of fat or how you source meat, Keto is about how low your carbs are, and usually people are told they need to have lower carbs than they actually need and to increase electrolytes and nothing else.
Keto does not require IF, and many non-keto people do IF (or simply skip breakfast without thinking about it and eat between, say, 2 and 8).

It's a fad currently. It also CAN be a sustainable way of healthy eating (although I have issues with cutting out healthy foods for no good reason) for some, if you focus on enough protein, using the carbs for veg and nuts, not cutting too low or limiting too much veg, and healthy sources of fat. But there's no requirement. And you can eat as healthy or better a diet not doing keto, including focusing on veg, protein, healthy fats, even more easily, plus fruit, more veg, and healthy whole food sources of protein (beans and lentils) and carbs (tubers, whole grains), and all (more dairy and nuts).25 -
I assume you're talking about eating eggs, and only eggs, for a certain amount of time. This type of dieting is called "mono" dieting. And it almost always fails. It's a very disordered way of eating, and not sustainable. I would advise against it. Instead, try going in the polar opposite direction. Instead of structuring your diet to eat as much as you want of one food - eat a huge variety of foods in moderation.16

i used to love them as a kid, not sure if my tastes changed or if they changed the recipe but i cant stand them now

I had boiled eggs for breakfast but no way would I eat a diet consisting of nothing but boiled eggs.....don't fancy being farty and constipated......phew.
Cadburys Cream Eggs are like marmite.....love or hate. I love marmite and hate cream eggs4 -
Short term weight loss diets are mostly about losing water weight which will return after you begin eating normally again. In other words, a huge waste of time. This egg only diet is a really terrible idea.
Losing fat weight takes time. There are no ways of eating, pills, fasts, detoxes, cleanses, or stars to wish upon to speed up the process. If there were there would not be an obesity crisis.10 -
What would be the point of that? I’m a big fan of hard boiled eggs, but if you try to tell me that’s the only thing I can eat, we’re going to have problems. Why not just make it easier on yourself and enjoy a varied diet that fits your calorie goals (and puts you in a deficit)?5

Excellent point. While I have never tried this diet and never will this is what I consider a good recipe for me to end up in binge mode. I would be very likely to gain weight.

My approach to weight management has been to learn to eat the foods I would normally eat in more appropriate portion sizes. I have not been focused on trying to lose a bunch of weight fast.
I could maybe eat 1 egg a day. I really don't love eating eggs so a diet based on them would be a bad fit for me.
If you want to drop water weight cutting down on carbs and sodium will likely make that happen for you temporarily. Otherwise fat loss is from having a consistant calorie deficit no matter the food you eat.3 -
What does short term weight loss mean? I am hoping that you are not delving into some sort of rapid weight loss strategies.
I have not and will not try this diet or any other diet that has 'diet' in its name. Fad diets promising quick or rapid results only fail, you cannot possibly lose weight in a healthy manner and for me this means not only physical weight loss but mentally as well. We need to have healthy relationships with food and our our bodies and set ourselves up for long success not some quick and dirty way to lose weight. Fad diets do not teach you long term maintaining.6 -

- Menstrual irregularities
