Changing Goal

I was on 2pounds loss a week but due to hunger I changed to 1.5 a week which has put me down as I feel like as I can eat quite a lot I wont lose...and it will take me a lot longe :/

Anyone changed their goal before?

Don't get down on yourself. You're most likely doing the right thing by changing your rate of loss to a more sustainable calorie level, which will allow you to eat a bit more.

Just remember, you are making life long changes to reach a desirable weight and recognizing that you placed yourself at too severe a deficit is a good thing. As many will point out, weight loss is a marathon and not a sprint. You didn't put on all the weight rapidly; so take that into account as you won't lose it rapidly either.

Best of luck to you!

    this was a great decision.

how much weight do you want to lose? Do you eat back exercise calories?

I started with every intention of not suffering. I set my goal to lose 0.5 lb per week.

For me, an appropriate weight loss rate goal was an important part of the recipe for success. It made the process sustainable for long enough to actually lose all the weight, while feeling happy and satisfied with my eating along the way.

As s bonus, because I repeatedly slowed my loss rate intentionally as I got lighter (for lower health risk), it helped me learn and practice a week of eating that I could sustain very long term to stay at a healthy weight (which I've now done for 3+ years since losing).

A second bonus was that actually losing and maintaining gave me a better handle on how to achieve other goals in my life that require patience and persistence, and gave me the sense of mastery and confidence to take them on.

Good move, revising goals to make the process sustainable! :)

Whenever I started a diet in the past I would give myself a huge loss per week and eat really low calories then binge due to hunger and then give up.

It wasn't until I came to MFP and took the advice to set a reasonable goal in the first place and lowered my expectations on how fast I could lose and learned to be patient that my weight came down. It is still coming down and I don't feel the need to binge or to give up.

You are doing the right thing. Kudos to you for realising what you need to do and doing it.

Changing your goal should have given you an additional 250 cals.

    That's not really loads?

Objectively it isnt, but thats a chocolate bar or a bag of popcorn and I have the mentality of - how can I eat this and lose weight?

I just have to hope it works. Thankd everyone for comments
