so we can look at them and say..........."if only"0 -
Fact. My son didn't know how to nurse after using the bottle because the bottle was so much easier and he didn't have to work as hard. If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't have used the bottle at least not right away.0

It's left over from early fetal development - at a certain point we were just a fetus with an undetermined gender, and then a flood of hormones came along in utero and told us what gender we were going to be. Nipples are a leftover from that time. Men do have mammary tissue, anyway. Just a tiny, tiny bit of it.
During conception, each fertilized egg starts out with an X chromosome (from the mother) and an X or Y chromosome from the father, which determines their gender. XX will be a female, and XY will be a male. During fetal development, what started out as an undetermined gender gets developed during the fetal stage into a male or a female.0 -

Nipple confusion refers to a new born baby taking a bottle before gettign breast fed and then being confused about it if the mom tries to breast feed after.
My question was is it fact or myth. There has been no conclusive evidence to support nipple confusion. Its all hearsay0 -

Does it look like you're smuggling peas?0 -

I use the term 'nipple preference' when supporting breastfeeding moms. some babies do tend to have trouble going back and forth from breast to bottle since they don't have to work as hard drinking from a bottle. We usually recommend that moms exclusively breastfeed for at least 6 weeks before introducing a bottle. Even then it can be a bit of a gamble. (I am a nurse in a NICU and do a lot of teaching/support for breastfeeding)0

I have answers from the Sex Education Professor too, but I thought I might steer clear and not get this thread shut down.0 -

Micah - I nursed both my boys for 13-15 months. They took a bottle at day care, and when/if I had to be away for some reason. There was not any nipple confusion, however with my younger one there was nipple refusal as once he got to be about 9 months old he refused a bottle from anyone except day care.... and yes, now that he's 4 we can tell that he's turning into a "boob man".
Nipple refusal... *GASP* Is he ok now?0 -
Fact,
My oldest Breast fed,
My middle child Only bottle wouldnt take a nipple, but started in NICU with a Bottle.
My youngest child was bolus fed, and had an oral aversion, wouldn't put food in his mouth for years...
So I say based on what I have seen.. Fact.0 -

Can I step in and over-complicate this statement by pointing out the existence of XX males and the SRY gene? :laugh:0 -
