It's ok, it's very hard to stay healthy when you're in hospital and have no control over your diet or exercise but you are the same lovely person you were before. Bodies change and they can change back, you're in the right place you just need to work on a positive mindset. Maybe you need to talk to someone to get some support with this?4

Weight loss is a long term commitment. start now and keep going. a little bit at a time until you find your comfort zone.
Being angry or sad or depressed about your weight does nothing. Focus on you as a better person and then just start...a little bit at a time and before you know it you will be where you want to be.
Don't blame yourself, just change. Change your eating habits, change your exercise habits, change your outlook (to positive).
Everyone has the potential to be better. Only you can realize and act on that potential.3 -
Why were you in hospital? Unless you were in there for an eating disorder, I'm sure the fat didn't grow in the hospital, they only feed you enough to maintain your weight. How old are you?3

Considering that you have (or had) a heart problem, I would strongly recommend that you work with your doctor on trying to lose weight. Ask for a referral to a registered dietician who is knowledgeable about your condition if you haven't seen one already, and make sure that any exercise you want to do is cleared by your doctor before you start.8 -
Weigh in and log it. Own it, whatever weight you are. Put the past behind you, get focused, log everything going forward and kick butt!!! You can do it!3

I'm sorry you're feeling bad about yourself. I agree to consult a doctor for nutrition advice since you are having problems with your heart. You should also talk with them about your mental health and emotional needs. We all get blue when we feel we fail but I think your feelings are deeper than just being a bit down. Good luck and I hope you find the help and support you need to become a healthier you overall!3

Did that heart problem necessarily result from excess weight? I can't tell if the OP was in fact overweight or not.1 -

You're making an assumption that the heart problem was caused by excess weight. Being underweight can also cause heart problems.
ETA: and given that they were giving OP "a lot of food" in the hospital to deal with the heart problem, damage from being underweight seems much more likely than damage from being overweight.6 -

I’m not sure why you think I’m making assumptions about what caused OP’s medical condition. I told OP they need to work with their doctor about any weight loss effort. The only assumption I’m making is that the doctor would tell OP if weight loss is not a good idea.2 -

You recommended working with the doctor "on trying to lose the weight." Not sure how else someone is supposed to read that other than working with the doctor on doing things to lose weight, which is a bad idea for someone who had to be hospitalized and fed "a lot of food" to deal with heart failure. I'm sorry if that's not what you meant.1 -
Mate the best thing you can do it talk to your doctor about it! They are the best will give you the best advice for you!0

if you have recently had a medical condition that required hospitalization you need to speak to your healthcare team about weight loss and the best way to go about it.
i most cases if you gained weight in the hospital it was because they WANTED you to. unless of course people were bringing you OTHER food that you ate.
if your medical team does NOT think you need to lose weight, or only a few (under 10) pounds, you might want to see a healthcare professional regarding body dysmorphia.2 -

It’s not what I meant.
We don’t know what caused OP’s heart issue. It may be unrelated to weight. It may be related to being underweight or overweight.
We don’t know OP’s starting weight.
We don’t know any other physical or mental health conditions OP does or does not have.
We don’t know how much, if any, weight OP gained in the hospital. They may have gained fat. They may have gained water due to things like medication or IV fluids. They may have gained nothing, but simply see themselves as “fat.”
When anyone posts about weight loss and has a clear medical issue that may be related to weight loss, I think the safe and ethical thing to do is refer that person to the appropriate medical professional(s), which I did. The medical professional should be the one who gives that person advice about whether/how to lose weight.
I am not sure why this is a problem, but I stand by my earlier advice that OP talk with their doctor. I am not going to derail OP’s thread further on defending that advice.6
