Keeping avocado fresh

For those who want to sometimes just eat half, how do you wrap/store the other half for the next day? Seems no matter what I do, the remainder turns brown and gross.

I leave the pit in the portion I'm not going to eat, then I squirt a little lime juice on the flesh, wrap it tightly in plastic and store in the refrigerator. But lets be honest, I almost never have any avocado left over. I just eat the whole thing.7

I eat avocados all the time. When I have a new, fresh avocado I halve it and eat the half without the pit. I leave the pit in the other half and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and eat it the next day. It won't keep more than a day or two so if you plan to eat half, you should plan to eat the other half the next day...or maybe the day after that. Open avocados don't keep long no matter what you do.4

Not much you can do besides leave the pit in the half, spray or rub exposed flesh with lemon juice, and wrap airtight. The top will get brown but you can literally scrap a millimeter off the top and get the green flesh directly underneath. Eat it within a few days.4

These work pretty well for pit-out storage (2-3 days max), especially if you moisten the flat side with lime juice (lemon would also work, but to me lime juice is more 'related" to the avocado).
This is the one I have now, but there are quite a few others; all of which emulate the "tightly wrapping the unused portion in plastic" mentioned in other posts1 -
Pit in, lemon juice on, and air out. That, or freeze.0

I've gone to buying frozen bags of avocado chunks at Costco. There always seems to be a lot of waste with buying avocados - not only in the storage of uneaten pieces but dealing with overripe or bruised avocados that you have to throw away when you open them up. The frozen bags work quite well.0

This is what I so as well. The acid from the lime juice helps slow down the oxidation process which is what causes the change in color.0 -
I use an “avocado saver.” I keep the pit in too. Works great to keep for 1-2 days.

Is it grim to admit I just eat the brown bits the next day? 😳2

If you mash it up with a fork the oxidized brown bits will blend in with the fresh stuff and you will no longer see it. I know brown looks gross but it shouldn't taste bad.0
