Not feeling great - your thoughts...

Hey. So I’m on day 4 of the Keto diet and I’ve been doing great and feeling great....until this afternoon. Now I’m trying to figure out if it’s something I ate or my body reacting to the change in diet?
I had breakfast as normal and went about my day feeling more than fine. Then for lunch/snack made myself some tuna, mayonnaise and some sweet corn. The tuna was the other half of the tin which I had yesterday (and had no reaction yesterday) but I had it plain out of the tin yesterday rather than mixed with mayo or sweetcorn (again neither of those ingredients have effected me in the past). But roughly 40 minutes after eating I cane across suddenly very hot and the need to rush to the bathroom for a rather unpleasant number#2 (sorry for TMI). Whilst on the loo I thought I was going to black out, I had terrible stomach cramps and then my temperature dropped the other way and I couldn’t stop shivering. I’m now laying in bed feeling so cold and like I’ve been hit by a train. X2 pepto stopped me having to run to the bathroom anymore.
Your thoughts on what this could be? I’ve heard of ‘keto flu’ but is that so sudden like I experienced?

Any chance it’s the regular flu?6

Honestly, I'd probably head to hospital.5

Another thing that it may be is a vasovegal response.

I had very similar symptoms last year when out for dinner. No apparent cause, it just happened.
Emergency services were called, by the hotel, and they monitored me for 30 min, but after that I was fine and needed no further treatment.
If I had been at home I would probably have just lay down for an hour or so.
I’ve never had it happen before or since.
I actually passed out between courses, woke to think I had totally soiled my undies and more, hadn’t, but was cold, soaking wet (sweat) and shivering.
Hope you are feeling better. If not, get someone to take you to emergency.
Cheers, h.

This is indeed interesting, thank you so much!1 -

Are you starting to feel better?
My onset symptoms were feeling like I had wind in my intestines, not stomach, and maybe needed a trip to the bathroom, so I thought I’d ask my sister to go for a walk with me. I never finished the sentence, just keeled over. She said I went white and sweaty as I was talking.
If you can, check with your mum or other family members, it can be familial (according to the medics who treated me)
Cheers, h.
( the medics were surprised I knew what it was- I learned about it on MFP ).2 -
Maybe I'm overly cautious, but I never ever leave leftovers of canned tuna for the next day, even in the fridge. It goes bad very fast. Honestly, it sounds very much like you had food poisoning, from the symptoms you described.3

Were you intaking extra salt (electrolytes)? I followed that advice and avoided the keto flu altogether if this is what this was. I also eased into keto. I spent a week eating keto meals for breakfast, then I added lunch the next week, then in the third week all three meals. No flu, no negative transition symptoms other than peeing a lot for a couple of weeks.3

Asking strangers on an internet forum to diagnose an illness for you is not wise. I doubt there are many MD's on MFP and if there were, they would tell you to go see your doctor.3

Obviously if I felt I was in danger I would seek medical advice. My question was simple to determine if this has been experienced by other people on keto.4 -

I have been really mindful in adding extra salt to my food to make sure I’m not lacking in electrolytes. I made my other half buy some magnesium supplements for me tonight though.0 -

I’m feeling marginally better, not feeling so cold. Will see how I do during the night. Thank you for your concern 🙂🙏🏼3 -
It sounds like food poisoning. Be very careful to hydrate - it might be good for you to get some rehydration salts/electrolyte drinks from the drug store to sip (better yet, send someone to get it for you). If you are still feeling woozy or having the runs, go to urgent care. Typically you'll feel better once the contaminant is out of your system. But err on the side of caution - have someone take you to the doctor if you are getting worse instead of better. Take care!2

Thank you so much for your words. My OH did run out and get me back an electrolyte drink and I’ve sipped that. Tomorrow’s a new day and fingers crossed I’ll feel my normal self 🙏🏼0 -
I did Keto for a while and sounds like my fourth day (without the satanic number 2). They should call it the Keto gastro bug instead of Keto flu, because that's what it felt like. Was fine the next day.1
-
Just sounds like a normal stomach bug to me. Id see a doc if you don't feel better in a couple of days.1
-
Hope you're feeling better this morning, OP! Keep sipping fluids today!1

sounds like food poisoning. I've had what you described too. It really doesn't take much, especially with seafood. Most of the time it's perfectly safe.
It doesn't take long for the body to react to mild food poisoning. Just keep on drinking water and you should be fine.1 -
I agree with the others that it could be food poisoning. If it doesn't clear in a few days you should get checked out!1
