painkillers?

I've seen a few people suggest that others take painkillers to 'get through' exercise. Is this sensible advice? I play a lot of music - I know this is different, but when you play a lot you do get all sorts of strains and injuries. The advice I've had in this sphere has always been not to cover up pain with analgesics, as that will mask potential damage and result in increasingly severe injury. Surely if this is the case for the smaller muscles that we use in music making, it's also the case for the more intense actions associated with exercise?
Or am I being dim?

i'm sure its not 'painkillers' but asprin or ibuprofin.
i am sure not many people on here would advocate illict drug use.
ps..if you are doing the exercises correctly you shouldnt be having any issues.0 -
I think we might be encountering language barriers. Here painkiller = analgesic = stuff like brufen, aspirin etc. I didn't mention illicit drugs, but perhaps that's the transatlantic language barrier issue again.
I've had crunchy knees for ten years plus. Family riddled with arthritis. I don't have it yet but it's likely on its way. So the knee isn't caused by the exercise.0
