Monitoring carb intake-I’m a noob. Lol

So I’m trying to manage my carb and sugar intake, BUT I’m not trying to calculate ALL carbs (found in milk, cheese, carrots, etc). I just want to calculate heavy carbs such as bread, tortillas, crackers, etc. I went to the adjustable part where I can input my car intake (85g/day) but its calculating all of my carbs.
Does anyone know how I can adjust it specifically? This may be far fetched, but thought I’d ask. Lol

Your body does not use the carbs found in dairy and veggies differently than it does those found in grains. Carbs are carbs. The only difference is the small amount of additional time it takes for your digestive system to convert complex carbs (starches such as those found in grains, legumes, etc) into glucose compared to simple carbs (sugars).
The one thing you should look for is foods that contain carbs as well as fiber such as whole grains, legumes, whole fruit, etc. The fiber does help slow down the processing and absorption of the sugar.10 -
you can't do that with the mfp interface.0

The distinction you're making between one type of carb and another isn't anything that can be measured, so there's no way for MFP to do that. I've honestly never heard the term heavy carb.
You could I guess add an additional meal to your food log and call it "heavy carbs" and log everything that fits the category to you there. Then just add the # of carbs in there in your head.5 -
I think what you mean is you want to reduce high GI (glycemic index)/starchy carbs, but are not worried about low GI carbs. This is a matter of educating yourself and choosing foods that are low GI, as MFP doesn’t differentiate. There are lists online of the GI rating of different foods.1

When I was tracking, I set up sugar and fibre next to my carb column. Fibre was usually close to half of my carb total, and I kept sugar under 10g (but I was a bit lower carb than you so sugar rarely exceeded 5g.)
Otherwise, all you can really do us look at the nutritional info for each food once you input it with extra attention to those foods you wish to limit.1 -
"Heavy carbs" are not a thing, MFP could not count them. Are you trying to count only starch carbs? If there are specific foods you want to know your carbs from, the best bet seems to be noting it in the comments, like someone else suggested.
If you are thinking that dairy carbs are somehow different in kind from the complex carbs found in foods like potatoes, whole grains, and beans/lentils, that's not true in that your body easily turns complex carbs into sugars. And foods containing lots of starchy carbs vary a lot in how many nutrients they come with, and how much fiber they contain.4 -

Why are you only counting some carbs?1 -
how close to MFP carb count should I be?0

That is totally up to you and what foods satisfy you the most. People on here will be eating anywhere between 10% of their total calories in carbs up to 65% or more. It is totally individual. Even people who need to reduce their carb consumption because of issues like diabetes will eat a wide range.
If you have no metabolic issues, start with the MFP default and see how satisfied you are. You can raise or lower it as you go.1 -
