Your body burns a certain number of calories just by existing (to fuel your brain and other organs, bood flow, etc.). That's the resting metabolic rate.
To maintain that weight, you have to burn off any calories you burn ABOVE that number, so you definitely do not need to burn everything you eat -- at least not with exercise.0 -
In order to maintain your weight your calorie intake must equal your output. If you eat more than you burn you gain, if you burn more than you eat you lose, and if they're equal you stay the same.0
-
To maintain the weight you want, take your weight and multiply it by 11. Example: you want your weight to be 130. 130 x 11= 1430. you eat 1430 calories a day to maintain that weight. My OB also has a weight loss clinic and this is what he says.0

when you get to maintenance you can input that in MFP and it will adjust the caloric intake for you, and then yes, as always you should eat back your exercise calories so your body has the fuel it needs to function at its best.0

Agreed. (with both assessments)That's not a dumb question! (Believe me, if I thought it was, I'd say so. :-) ]
To the OP: I like to preach using the Search function, but can see how you asked your question that it might be difficult to frame in search terms. Not a dumb question at all. I think the keyword/phrase you might be looking for is "maintenance" or "maintenance calories." Search on that and you'll find lots of good info here.0 -
Win, for a great question. Fantastic answers too. This forum does work!0
