Knee aching hours after exercise 10 stone 3 5ft 5 (could it be weight)

I’m not exactly overweight. However I may be clutching at straws I’ve seen the physio who said small amounts of running should be fine. I have insoles as my alignment isn’t great.

I’ve been doing all the physio exercises.

Yet my knee (just the one) seems to ache a day or two after.

My problem is I love small amounts of running. Do you think losing weight will help (I’m not exactly obese but body fat is quite high)?

Maybe I just have to give up running 😢

    Have you had any imaging (an MRI and/or x-ray) done and has an orthopedist examined your knee (and looked at said imaging)? Have your told your physio about the fact that you're still having pain in your knee?

    I honestly highly doubt that this has much if anything to do with your weight, but I also don't think this is a case of "you can never run again". I mean the later is probably more of a possibility than the former, but a very distant possibility and not one that any of us would be able to predict without massive amounts of guess work.

    I still run too, I have retropatellar chondromalacia; which is the fancy term for not a lot of cartlidge left. Seeing a physio might help; get you doing exercises to strengthen weaknesses in your legs to help minimise pain. And yes, losing weight helps; my doc said even 5kgs can help remove extra stress on the knees.

    I switched to cycling after having a series of injuries. I still run a little because I love it but I can do so much more on a bike. I switched for the long term. I want to be able to exercise into old age.

    It might help losing weight - it's unlikely to make the situation worse I would have thought!
    But really it depends on your particular injury or condition. Do you have a diagnosis?

    I've had knee injuries where extended duration caused a hell of a lot of soreness but the same volume spread over the week didn't hurt (patellar and meniscus). It also reacted very differently to running briskly or running at a slow jogging pace (steady jogging was far worse than fartlek training for example).
    I've also got injuries that react particularly badly to the impact of running but withstand many hours of cycling without complaint (ligament and meniscus).

    It could be so many different things unfortunately that at the moment all outcomes are possible for you.

    I would see a dr about your knee pain, if you have a minor injury that is aggravated by running you need to get on the right treatment plan, but it doesnt mean it is game over

    I tore my PT Ligament last year (Patella, Tibia, the one holding the knee cap onto your lower leg) I am still in pain now but able to cycle daily, run twice a week and train in the gym. I wear a knee brace to support the knee cap but I cant do HIT exercises such as lunge jumps, I also have to be careful running or cycling up hill but a gentle run on flat ground is fine.

    Once you get a diagnosis then its easier to work around the problem, weight loss wont hurt but it might not fix the issue, as its only one knee I would suspect its an injury

    i'd go back to the physio, or find a better one!

    do yo do any strength training?

    how small is a 'small amount of running'?
